If you had the power to...

thats what i said :frowning: no electoral college, and they would split the existing parties because they would have to steal

but laws about the ballot and debates would need a little tweaking or something

I have to say that eliminating the electoral college would be a terrible idea though. George Bush was a failure for our entire system, but we don’t need the utter terror we’d experience without it.

such as

A two party system is better than a multiple party system. For example of a multiple party system, look at India. No one can agree on anything, and it’s basically just organized chaos.

The electoral college is better than the alternative. A straight up popular vote wouldn’t work because it would take forever for a recount. The link posted earlier in the thread is too complicated and won’t pass because dumber Americans won’t be able to vote because they’ll be intimidated by its complexity.

I kinda like the electoral college, a popular vote for an election of that size seems somewhat unorderly.

that’s true. in places like the czech republic, literally nothing gets passed because it’s all proportional representation and that creates too many parties

Free ice cream for everyone.

Most americans are too stupid to vote correctly. That’s why the electoral college was created. It was supposed to keep the idiots from selecting another idiot to run our country. George Bush for 8 years is proof of its necessity, though it may have failed.

Ohh, gridlock in India
We’re suffering just as bad in America with two. Differing beliefs without compromise will always bring gridlock. Parties don’t matter. It’s the members that do.

Based on what? Weight? Why make the fat fatter? And what type of ice cream? And what about allergies? Do you want to kill little children?

Preamble wants to bring down America.

@engineer: if it weren’t for the electoral college, we could have had al gore as pres and like that would have been a dream
instead, the electoral college elected an idiot, and the vast majority of stupid americans voted for the wayyyy better option.

there haven’t been very many minority presidents, anyway, and the only time there is a minority president, he pretty much sucks.

Maybe everyone needs more ice cream. Every type . It’ll make kids lose weight(low fat)
We all deserve ice cream.

That is how parties work.

Hey, don’t dirty up my proposal with politics. We all need ice cream, everywhere, all over the world. I bet if world leaders readily had access to ice cream at any given time, and ate it on a day to day basis, we’d be a lot less belligerent as a species.

No one ever wants to deploy nuclear weapons after having a bowl of Ben & Jerry’s. It just doesn’t happen.

no, it should be froyo

and maybe we should work on giving children in third world countries basic nutrition first

The Supreme court made him president. The electoral college is made up of humans. Our whole system failed, not just the electoral college. Most of the public is just as stupid as the founding fathers thought. Try asking a random person what they think of Obama or ted cruz. See what they say, and ask why. I guarantee the answer will surprise you.

you mean that they would just give me stupid answers?

@LcEngineerDT - Our AP US GoPo teacher posed the question; “How many of you are comfortable with the idea of Kim Kardashian having a say in who our President is?” - and hardly anyone raised their hand.

Not going to really divulge my own person view on the matter; just simply that many people agree with the idea of the masses not being able to function intelligently in as open as a democracy as we have.

when has the popular vote ever been so ridiculous? usually it’s the same as the election results.

The answers would be more than just stupid.
I don’t want to say it like that. We have a lot of really intelligent people in the U.S., but the majority just trumps that. We should never give the public enough power to overrule the electoral college. The outcome could be disastrous.

yeah, i know. have you seen those jimmy fallon videos where they ask people about us history? it’s actually really disheartening lol

but it’s not like the popular vote has ever been ridiculous
?

I’ve seen them, and it’s disgusting.

George w Bush (2nd term)
ted cruz-Terrible
Michele Bachmann-worse
There are many more examples of such
