<p>I'm applying to UHawaii, URI, IU, and UIdaho... but I'm hoping to get into some other, smaller universities. I don't like the idea of going to a school that has more people than the town I live in....</p>

<p>I would choose UC Berkeley, but they don't offer the major I'm considering, so my choice would come down to cost. If, in this hypothetical situation, the cost of each school was the same, I'd go to UMich. If cost was the same as it is in reality, I'd go to my state's flagship, U of Illinois.
I hope this doesn't happen- not because I'm a purist about going to a private school, as I am considering several state schools, but because I think going to such a large college would make it harder to find friends and to make other personal connections.</p>
