If You Have A Low UW GPA but a High Weighted GPA...?

I have a 3.4 UW GPA, but a 4.3 W GPA (not a great W GPA but around average for lots of people with 3.8-4.0 UW's).

My SAT score is is 2340 and my extracurriculars are totally stellar (3 foundings, 6 leadership positions, raised thousands of dollars, etc.) and I'm black.

Will my UW GPA kill my chances for places lke USC, Carnegie Mellon, JHU, UMich (instate) etc.?

Don't worry about it. You'll get in.

Why don't you apply to MIT, Harvard and stuff. You could definitely get into MIT, honestly.

It's all about rank, not GPA. If you're still in the top 10%, you should be good to go at those schools. If your school does not rank, they will still know where you are.

Not at all.

i was going to say 'i'm right there with ya',
but then i read your second line :0

You should've applied for harder schools (I mean, if you care about selectivity. If you're just going for fit then nevermind).

Oh I'm a junior, I haven't applied anywhere yet.

Try for better schools. Not that your list isn't good, but I think your stats combined with your URM status will make you a very strong applicant for the Ivies and other similarly selective schools.

That being said, try to bring that GPA up just a tiny bit. Colleges honestly don't care for weighted GPAs, but they do look at the rigor of the classes.

Good luck!

Your Ivy-League caliber SAT score should soothe any worries you have...unless you've been arrested or something in that category.
