If you have a question about getting into a waitlisted class

The answer is that ~10% of a class drops.

Thought it'd be more efficient considering the number of posts about it.

… but that 10% may not drop before the deadline to enroll.

True ^ creative10char

when is the enrollment deadline?

I posted this in another thread:

One time I was at waitlist position ~ 70 for cell bio (Spring 2010). I dropped it because a 70 person waitlist is ridiculous (and it eventually got to >100). After the first 2 weeks of the quarter, my friend who was auditing the class told me that the professor ended up dropping the waitlist and allowing everyone on it into the class. Moral of the story, if you’re on the waitlist, it’s not necessarily the end of the world.

I am #5 on the waitlist for a Chem 140A discussion AND there are 5 or 6 openings. How can that be? Are these spots reserved? Will they add me later? The whole thing is just very odd; for the lecture there are now openings in all discussions except one which has maintained its waitlist of 18.
Thanks, I did not want to start another waitlist thread!

Maybe they added more spots. I heard that some Chem6A people were on the waitlist when they put 10 more seats and they stayed on the waitlist. Dont quote me on this.

students other than freshmen aren’t allowed to enroll in classes this weekend, you should be added come monday.

Just wondering, whos going to be enrolling starting tomorrow? Because i’m currently waitlisted in some of my classes and i’m thinking of just dropping it and getting another class.

@AndrewL I hope the numbers are more generous than that number, cuz I’m #18 for CHEM 6A ;_;

@pinkberry
Well the sections can only be so big since you’re limited by the size of the lecture hall, but I think when I was taking CHEM 6A, they opened up a whole new discussion and basically the first people who jumped on it got in, regardless of their wait list position.

@nan2
I’m in the same boat too, except I was #2 on the wait list for CHEM 140A. It’s weird o.0 I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what happens.

@pinkberry
I’m #17 for chem, but i wanted to drop WCWP10A (warren writing) since i’m #3 and most people wont drop it.

@andrewL
well i think they closed off webreg to the rest of the school so only freshmen could enroll this weekend, maybe to keep the traffic low? Only reason i could tell is because last week i was 12 on a waitlist for ochem when, there were clearly open spots. I should have been moved into the class automatically but i guess they weren’t enrolling students into those spots just yet… webreg is open to everyone now though, just nabbed a spot in the class.

hopefully that makes sense…

So basically anyone who decided to change their mind on classes can now switch? I guess i wont need to drop WCWP10A just yet for a GE course since most people wont be taking those courses.

Was 11 on wait list (Chem 6a Prof C: 3:00 to 3:50) when I enrolled on the 2nd. I am in now - don’t understand how since the class size is still the same and additional sections were not added

Are you complaining? Just accept some stuff as it is, ok? :)

yeah dude, I’m still number 2.

Somewhat about waitlisted classes, but my question is- will my waitlisted class count towards the 12 units required to receive financial aid?

nnnnnnnno.
