if you have any questions for us...

Oh, there are mods for sure on CC. UCLAri is one (a great one at that). But s/he usually just stays on the UC forums. Then again, s/he has around 2000 posts!!! O.O :) If you or someone else can become a mod, then we can actually have pertinent sticky topics. sigh The stuff we have stickied are fairly old. Anyways, back to studying for finals! :D

Quick question that doesn't really fit anywhere else:
How do we go about changing our present schedule?

Your school schedule?

If you're referring to your current high school schedule...I think you're supposed to notify the Stanford Admissions Office and tell them what class you plan to change and why. It'll probably be just fine.

After being accepted early, I actually changed a second semester class, got lazy and didn't tell Stanford about it, and was still fine.

Yeah, because I think I'm going to drop a class (with valid reason, of course!). And it's not a major one; just AP CompSci.

I was just wondering stanford attendees how long did it take you to get used to the quarter system? I have semesters and it is usually where the first week is blow off, but with quarters by the end of a week you will already have grades. Also does each quarter have a midterm/exam b/c i heard the winter quarter doesnt have one or something? Can you clarify this for me. And if it does have exams (in the winter quarter) is it before or after the break?

In some ways I'm still getting used to the quarter system. It goes by really quickly. Classes will usually have 1 or 2 midterms, some will have more exams and some won't have any exams. Each quarter has a week of exams at the end. (Maybe you heard that a particular statistics class doesn't have midterms or finals in the winter quarter?)

Midterms here at Stanford are pretty much just tests (that count for a large percentage of your grade), as they often don't fall exactly in the fifth week of the quarter. Math 51 has two, for example, one falling on the fourth week and one on the seventh, whereas CS106A only has one midterm during the sixth week. So it really depends on the class. IHUM 23A (Fate of Reason), doesn't even have a midterm.

Midterm formatting depends on the class. Some classes have one midterm, some have two. Some don't have any, though those will often have a project or paper of some kind that falls around the same time a midterm would (Fate of Reason is an example, or was last year). The exam schedule is pretty much the same every quarter.

Yeah. The only thing that kinda changes is the number of "dead" days you get. Fall/Winter quarter give you ~a week to study, but Spring Quarter only gives you a day.

i was accepted scea, and i changed my schedule and forgot to tell them. i switched out of ap econ into history of film to fulfil an art credit. i emailed the guy in charge and he said i wasn't supposed to do that. so now i'm waiting for his final verdict

Good luck - could you keep me posted? My friend's sister is in a similar situation (switched from an AP to a regular class) and is worried about having her admission revoked.

Oh geez...wow, I hope it goes well for you guys...I mean, it's not like taking AP econ for another quarter is going to change how you do when you come here anyways, I hope the guy's not going to be an ass about it...

Is someone out there who was accepted after being deferred? What did you do to increase your chances etc? Thanks.

if i want to get rid of the foreign language requirement at stanford.....can i go ahead and take the spanish SAT for June...i am already admitted but was just wondering how i would transfer my scores to Stanford for the Spanish subject test to get out of the class

I'm not sure about SAT IIs, but if you are proficient/fluent in a particular language, just take the placement test during NSO week. It doesn't take much time, it isn't hard, and you can pass the language requirement that way.

Apparently, you can satisfy the language requirement with an SAT 2
http://language.stanford.edu/requirement/index.html

How hard is it to get a 640 on the French SAT? I have very limited experience in French.

I've heard it's much much easier to do well on the SAT II exams than pass the placement exam. I would recommend trying the SAT II.

There are probably practice exams in SAT II French prep books that would give you a good sense of how you would do.

he emailed me back saying he's waiting to hear from the Dean about what he will do. and i'm starting to get worried :(

Was this last semester? Or this semester? If it's this semester my guess is that it's not a problem at all. If it was last semester that's more complicated but I would still guess that it won't be a problem. I really wouldn't worry as I'd be really shocked if they revoked your acceptance. I think that would be somewhat atypical (unless they thought you were purposefully trying to deceive them or something... but that would just be odd).
