Kish93 - Many students find the pre-med advising extremely helpful at Occidental. The staff members in the Health Professions Advising Office provide many resources that are readily accessible for students who plan on applying to medical school and other graduate programs. I encourage you to read the following article highlighting Occidental’s success with sending students to medical schools and other graduate programs in the health sciences at UCLA and other prestigious institutions: [Occidental College :: Banner Year for Oxy Medical School Applicants](http://www.oxy.edu/x10677.xml)

Thanks alot Oxy, good to know there are hospitals close by as well that one can volunteer/shadow at… definitely gonna apply to oxy… just need to get some motivation two write all these essays!

First off, I would like to thank you for setting aside time to answer the many questions from prospective Oxy students. I am a senior in high school and submitted my early decision application to Occidental on November 15th. I was wondering when I should be expecting my decision and if I will receive that decision by mail or email. If you could provide some insight that would be great. Thanks!

@icemangervin26 I applied ED as well, I’m really excited but also nervous. I was wondering if you ever got confirmation from Occidental that they received your app? I didn’t but I know they got it, because on Common App its totally completed and its shown as downloaded by the college. I was just wondering if this is something I should be worried about? Good luck.

Hey gbutler. I didn’t get any confirmation from Occidental, but I also checked the common app and saw that they had received all of the components of my application. I was a little worried that I had not been contacted at all by OXY, but since you haven’t been either that makes me feel a little better. If you don’t mind me asking, what are your stats? I am nervous because I think that mine are a bit low so I just wanted to see how I compare to the rest of the applicant pool. Don’t feel obligated to share though.

Hi Oxy. I’m wondering, how important is an interview for your application? I haven’t had a chance to schedule one, and I figure it’ll be tough to get one this late. If I don’t do it, will it hurt my chances of getting in? I do live in SoCal, so distance isn’t really an excuse.

icemangervin26 - ED 1 decisions will be mailed out in mid-December.

If you ever wish to know the status of your application, or to find out if your application is missing materials, feel free to email the Office of Admission at admission@oxy.edu. Do not worry about receiving a confirmation email about your application. The Office usually only emails students when their application is missing materials.

Fronas - Not participating in an interview will in no way disadvantage your application, regardless of your place of residency. There may still be time to schedule an on-campus interview if you are interested, but if not there is no need to worry! Call the front desk at 323-259-2700 to find out on-campus interview availability.

That’s a relief. I’m also applying to Pomona and I know they’re pretty adamant about local applicants getting an interview, so I was worried Occidental might be the same. Thanks!

Still waiting on mine. Would you mind sharing your son’s stats? I am pretty nervous because my scores are rather low. Also was it a large or small envelope?

Large priority mail envelope with an Oxy address sticker saying “Welcome to Oxy.”. We did not need to open it to know he was accepted.
I wil have to check with my son re his stats. Not sure whether he’s O.K. with posting.
