If you have any questions!

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>Can you please tell me about your experience getting internships with a psych. major, and whether there is an exploration of org/industrial psychology within the major?</p>

<p>also, i know that oxy has a 4-2 program with columbia, but is this possible with caltech as well??</p>

<p>mankeh - I know that the engineering programs are both competitive and rigorous. From the looks of it on the website, the 4-2 program is only available with Colombia. Unfortunately I can’t answer your question about economics, but I recommend contacting the adviser for your desired program and asking that person, I am sure they’d be happy to help. Please visit the following webpage for more information: [Occidental</a> College :: Combined Plans in Liberal Arts and Engineering](<a href=“http://www.oxy.edu/x9535.xml]Occidental”>http://www.oxy.edu/x9535.xml)
I hope this helps!</p>

<p>ewolfee - Transfer admission decisions are sent out on a rolling basis. All applicants should be hearing back before June!</p>

<p>tuffy93 - Although I am not a psychology major, I do know there are multiple internships and research opportunities available. There is also a professor on campus who specializes in org/industrial psychology and teaches classes on it. There is also a class in the psych department which allows students to intern somewhere that offers them org/industrial psych experience. For more information regarding the psych department, check out the following webpage: [Occidental</a> Psychology Department](<a href=“http://departments.oxy.edu/psych/]Occidental”>http://departments.oxy.edu/psych/)</p>

<p>Does occidental take pass/no pass in a stats class?</p>

<p>Hello i am a student who got accept to oxy this year 2012, i have some question about fiancial aid, and if i do sttend oxy i will be majoring in psych too
My finnanical aid package include a 27k grant from oxy and 3k work study and 7.5k loans, so i have to pay about 24k per year. my parents work in taiwan so our income consider as a middle low income family in america. I am very excited i just got off the waitlist this year 2012 but 24k is simply too much. my parents has to sell there car, decrease my granmothers medical expense if i want to attend, my sister probably even have to drop out of school, just for me to attend. </p>

<p>I called oxy’s fianicial aid office and ask why is my EFC expected family contribution is so high, on my fafsa our EFC is about 10k but oxy’s financial aid counselor told me they are using the CSS PROFILE to evaluate not fafsa and my EFC on CSS is 24k, why? my family really dont have that much money! they said there is absolutely no more award they can add to my packed ;(…I heart occidental has a great financial aid, most of time they give a generous offer to student or meet there 100% needs, but whats wrong with my case? other college i applied gave me a fianical aid package that i only have to pay about 10k per year which is close to my EFC. why is my efc so high in CSS PROFILE?</p>

<p>It might be because you were on the waitlist. Most of the money is given out before they go to the waitlist, but if they say they meet full need then I guess it shouldn’t matter. You should definitely call the admission office, I’ve heard they are very friendly and helpful. They can explain the calculation.</p>

<p>If I get a 1 on an AP exam, should I not report it? I’m wondering if a failing AP exam score would hinder my acceptance.</p>

<p>Not sure if OxyIntern is answering questions anymore, but here it goes.</p>

<p>I just got accepted for Fall 2012 transfer, and was wondering about housing. How much are dorms, usually? What are the different dorms and their specs? </p>

<p>I know third-years can live off-campus, would you recommend that? I hear it saves a ton of money.</p>

<p>cedars: I’m not OxyIntern but my D is a freshman in Fall 2012. This link has information about the different dorms and the costs. </p>

<p>Hello, I was wondering if any of you could post your freshman year schedule onto this thread. I am wondering about freshman year requirements but couldn’t find any.</p>

<p>I have a question about ATMs. My bank is Wells Fargo and the welcome packed Occidental sent said there is no Wells Fargo ATM within walking distance of campus. The packet said there was an ATM on campus run by Glendale Area Schools Federal Credit Union but when I looked at their website I found out that they don’t have online banking. Would you recommend getting an account with an online bank like INGDirect or Schwab, and do you know if they would reimburse me for out of network fees at the ATM on campus?</p>

<p>How strongly are Subject Matter SAT tests recommeded? Is it a soft recommendation, a very strong recommendation, or somewhere in between? Any idea what percentage of accepted students submit the Subject Matter SAT test results?</p>

<p>Hello, I’m an international student as well and I’m thinking of applying ED2 to OXY, but I’ve got a question to ask, concerning the ED policy: If I am not given full financial aid by OXY, but still I get accepted, can I still go to another school, if it gives me a better financial aid package?</p>

<p>Thank you very much in advance!</p>

<p>To what extent does oxy accept credit for AP classes?</p>

<p>Seriyes - Oxy accepts AP credit of 4s and 5s. However, these credits cannot cover CORE requirements or replace classes you would take for your major. So effectively, they are elective credits. Additionally AP scores may fulfill prerequisites for certain courses, like foreign language or psychology, for example, and allow you to be placed in an advance course. </p>

Hi! I applied as a Psych major, I want to know how stressful the workload is. I have seen and read many comments about how the professors expect too much out of the students, and the workload is unbearable. Also, although I do not have trouble making new friends, I get quiet around a large group of people, I am a type of person who likes to hang out with two or three people. I get loud and talkative in subjects I like, or am good at, but I tend to not talk at all, or don’t participate in class discussions if I don’t feel close to people around me. Would I be able to fit in?

I am deciding between Tulane, University of Miami and Occidental but leaning towards Occidental. I’m just a little concerned that given the small size, I might not fit in. I’m kinda preppy, not a vegan, love sports and the color pink. Also concerned about how well Oxy will prepare me for the real-world. I know liberal arts has it’s pros and cons, just not sure if the pros out weight the cons in my book. Can anyone offer any advice?

@supersister you won’t fit in not because of the size of the school, but because of the make up of the student body. You might be able to find your niche in one of the sorority’s on campus, but in general students lean more towards the hipster end of the spectrum (on a scale of preppy to hipster). Sports are not a huge deal here, so you will likely get more of that experience at one of the other schools you’re looking at. As for liberal arts schools, the pros absolutely outweigh the cons. Employers these days are looking for well-rounded students that have been exposed to various schools of thought. Liberal arts is the wave of the future, and will absolutely serve you well after graduation. As for preparing you for the real world, Oxy does not have the name recognition outside of California. If you don’t intend to stay in CA after graduation, Oxy is not the school for you. The career services department on campus is great if you are looking for opportunities in SoCal, but their services are extremely limited for any other opportunities. I have actually been flat out told by a career counselor on campus that I will not find a job in DC after graduation, because Oxy cannot compete with the schools there (and I am transferring for this reason, among many others.)

@Oswald14 what are your other reasons for wanting to transfer out of Oxy? What are you pursuing after college because I’m planning on taking premed and I’m not sure if the name recognition factor applies to me…
