If you have good grades at a competitive school

... then I want to ask you one question:
How do you study?

I'm attending one of the most competitive schools of my state. I've studied most of the time, yet end up with a B+ on several classes. For those of you who currently have high ranks at a competitive school, how do you both study to get an A and have a life at the same time?

I don’t over-study. There are few tests for which I will start studying more than a day in advance, but that’s simply because I know myself. Make sure you know what to study and you memorize the facts you need to know and understand the big underlying concepts. Other than that, be an active member of class (that doesn’t just mean participating, but also taking notes, making diagrams, rephrasing things in your head, etc). I am able to have a life and straight As because I use school time well.

I can be more specific if you ask more specific questions too, so go ahead.

how do schedule yourself? like how many day in advance do you plan?

I don’t really plan too much. I just make sure I know what’s ahead of me. So usually on Saturday, I’ll mentally go over all my major assignments in my head, thinking when I’ll do what, that way I can balance out my week and never have to do two big things on one day (big things for me are writing essays and studying for hard tests).

As far as long term studying goes, I do that before classes start every day. I get to school around 7 and head to the library to study notes until class starts at 7:45. That helps reduce the amount of cramming I have to do the night before the test so I get plenty of sleep and feel well-rested before the test. Plus I get an awesome parking spot
