*Due to my school's weird scheduling system, I could not fit an AP Bio class in my schedule and IB Bio isn't enough for SAT II. So I studied the whole curriculum by myself (yes this is true), and my teacher told me a 680 is very respectable especially since I studied independently. I will also be taking the AP Bio test in May 2010, studying on my own again.

**The National English Honor Society was not available in my school until my senior year

***IB Math HL is, according to my teacher, the hardest math class offered in the county and also possibly THE hardest overall class in the county. Same goes for AP physics C, but it's probably not as hard as IB Math HL.

btw, they website said interviews will be given at around Feb, but I have not received any...so, I guess my chances are already slim?

you have an okay shot. not having an interview does not hurt your chance for admission. there better be ****ing cake at my dorm tomorrow.

thanks, and there will be, don’t worry

didn’t you ask just a while ago?

…but this time he offered cake.

I’d say low reach. but if you give me that cake in the next 2hrs, it’ll be a safety.

yeah, but I only response last time, and I’m kinda in desperate need of feedback

But what does feedback now realistically do? I don’t understand why people are obsessed with being “chanced” when it doesn’t really matter what people on CC think…just the admissions reps. Besides, it’s too late now to go back and fix your GPA…retake tests etc…I guess I just don’t see the point…

Well I wanna what aspects NU are lookign for more than others., like for example, the IB programme. One person from my school, also in full IB programme, but didn’t an extremely higher SAT and her GPA shouldn’t be greater than mine, yet she got in. IT may be that she applied ED, but that full IB schedule had to have some influence in it

Haha LAMEST. TITLE. EVER.

My D applied two years ago with similar stats - better SATs, more APs, but worse class rank. Also Asian. She was waitlisted, wrote an impassioned letter, and was accepted into Weinberg for Biology.

Well you can’t really judge him on the APs because he has a whole IB diploma.

Coming from an IB student, I personally think that’s MUCH MUCH cooler :P

wait, so NU does like IB better?

@ Dadof3, what exactly where your D’s stats?

Not exactly “better” but some sources have published articles on how the IB is more challenging. NU understands that not everyone can get IB Classes, but the fact that you took them would be seen pretty cool.

seriously more challenging? Wow…

the thing is, the IB programme at my school is rather new and thus, not as rigorous as it should. I have a friend at another school with IB, and he said it’s like hell. The major difference at my school is that IB classes, we do practice and do as much work, so we don’t get a lot of opportunities to get grade, so we can’t screw up on anything (homework, project, tests, etc.).

You’re making me try to remember figures from two years ago - Class rank mid 40s out of about 350. Her math I & II SATs were about the same as yours, but both her English sections were in the 700s. Her ACT was over 30, but I don’t remember the exact score.

It was well into the waitlist process that she got her acceptance.

Don’t have much knowledge about IB, but as someone remarked your IB/AP combo may actually be to your advantage compared to DD. But then again, I believe there were more applicants this year, yet again.

yeah there is about a 6% increase in applicants this year…and with my SATs I guess I’ll be lucky if I get waitlisted
