I applied to SUNY by eop
i am writing appeal letter.

i got rejected by university at buffalo because my mother assets exceeded the state guidelines...

i assume that the reason why the asset is high is because my mom owns a house and the mortgage is all paid off.

so i am writing a letter appealing.

one thing i want to mention is that i got accepted to SUNY brockport (eop) and why did i get rejected by UB... (well, brockport did not ask for asset information, but still)

also how the house was purchased and was paid off a long time ago.. (i think 1995) not sure but i'll recheck it

so are these good reasons to put in my appeal letter?

I’m confused, if home equity is factored into EOP guidelines and your mother owns a home, what is the appeal based on? That another SUNY made a mistake? Not the best idea.

SparklingStars, you probably know that EOP is not a program that is available to every kid who qualifies for it anyway. And the qualifications are fairly vague and, to top that off, they differ by school. Unfortunately, there is not enough EOP funding to go around and it’s usually given to the neediest of the needy first, so it does depend on the school’s applicant pool. UB receives many more applications than Brockport. I don’t think Brockport made a mistake, UB just had to make some tough decisions.

I’m a little confused by the wording of your post - you did get accepted to UB, just not the EOP program, right? (If you didn’t it’s NOT because you are/are not EOP qualified, as they would have just put you in the regular applicant pool.)

Did you apply for an Acker scholarship?

Did you get your FA package from UB yet?

If UB offered you the full federal and state grants you would be eligible for if your income is in the EOP qualified range, plus Stafford loans, Perkins loan, and work study, this should have met your full need and made it very affordable.(Which, I’m guessing, is the reason you wanted EOP since you’re posting on the FA forum!). Look carefully at the COA for UB as well, as they do estimate the variable costs fairly high and you can choose to save on those expenses.

Is there another reason you need EOP? If so, Brockport may be the better choice for you.
