admissions will use the updated class rank and updated GPA that's on it, right?

A few of us wrote early posts about this issue.

Three things can happen
- You are already accepted and your midyear report doesn’t make any difference
- You are so clearly rejected that the midyear couldn’t make a dent in their mind

3) you’re one on the fence for whom the midyear can help take things either way.
Rank is useless. they just want to see the grades in the difficult courses you’re taking as a senior.

They have 20,000+ applications -they don’t read them all in March - duh.
They read them as soon as the file is complete.

For SCS,MCS, CIT
So imagine- you were a 3.8 + GPA with all the other good stuff included. Probably sitting in a yes pile
You’re less than a 3.4/3/5 – +/- You are probably in the reject pile UNLESS you are a female, URM, full-pay international, some steller athlete - unusual stuff-, legacy? .
Then the huge number of people 3.5 to 3.79 (roughly - you get the idea) you’re in pile of “??” and that means they are waiting for something to update your pile -.

This is all common sense. yes, each and every application is important and it’s read in its entirety- essays, recommendation etc… Reality- the applications are read when complete and the midyear report is just confirmation one way or the other of decisions.

Now scholarship decisions are NOT made until the very end of March.
Files are designated as in that pool for the very very very small number of students who get Andrew Carnegie funds (1/2 and full rides for 4 years). So this is very much why your mid semester grades matter and any other critical updates of awards should be updated in your file.

I’ll probably be an “on the fence” applicant because of my average GPA and lack of long-term ECs. Thanks for your help again mom2012and14!
