If you thought once was enough

what would you do if you had SEVEN extremely musically talented kids, all potentially performing at the conservatory level?

This recent news from son's alma mater UNotes Daily | News reminded me of the Taubl family The Taubl Family: Family. Given the musical backgrounds, experiences, and geographic locations of some of the board's posters, a few of you may have already crossed paths with a few of these "kids". My son was Gretchen's stand partner for many a Hartt concert, and has played with Annabelle in numerous chamber performances (the one I wish I had a recording of was Sonata in D major for flute, harp and viola by Robert Edward Smith). He's never had the opportunity to play with Emily.

The family gives a number of concerts in the New England area, and their holiday concerts tend to fill the venues. Annabelle also has been a featured soloist with a number of New England orchestras. From what I understand, most of the family are accomplished vocalists as well.

So, if you think this process is exasperating for one, maybe two of your own, there's always someone with a bigger kettle of fish to fry.

Then there is the Ying String Quartet - all siblings who are on the faculty at Eastman. I think there is a 5th Ying who is also a musician, but I am not positive on that.

I think it's wonderful. I would imagine these families were remarkably supportive of all of their musicians. Plus there IS strength in numbers...at least they knew that music was well regarded in their homes. But the cost...yikes.

Just a bit more from the NY Times <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/09/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/09colct.html?_r=2&ref=nyregionspecial2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin%5B/url%5D">http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/09/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/09colct.html?_r=2&ref=nyregionspecial2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin</a>.</p>

Another performing group of sibs The 5 Browns Official Home | The 5 Browns Official Site

The Browns put out a CD...I think it's called the Browns in Blue or something like that. I heard Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini on the radio today. Interesting variation and beautifully played.
