my grades took a dip during the first quarter of the year. here are my grades (1st quarter/second quarter/ midterm exam/overall)

AP Calc BC- C/A/A/B
AP Chemistry- A/A/B/A
AP Physics- A/A/A/A
AP Economics B/A/A/B
AP English B/B/B/B
Business Law A/A/A/A

My guidance counselor is including the fact that i was sick during the first marking period for some days causing my grades to dip. Do you think that highly selective schools will overlook this dip as a result of my good second MP grades (especially Calc going from C to A)?

You need to get a copy of your transcript. Different high school districts all have different formats for the transcript. For example, some have SAT scores and AP scores on it. I would personally think that the majority of transcipts do not show quarter grades, but only semester and final grades. If yours doesn't show quarter grades, the C won't show. If it does show the C, then it would be better for it not to be there, but I think you'd be okay with the GC note and the big improvement.

yeah i checked with my gc, the four categories show

bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmpppppppppppppppppppppppppp

My guess is that adcoms won't care, especially with the GC explanation. It's not as good as all As, but I doubt it's any sort of application killer.

It's not exactly aesthetically pleasing, but I think colleges will look at the semester grades much more than the quarter grades. So the C shouldn't matter.

Dude, how do you raise a C to an A in a quarter in AP Clac BC?

being sick for a few days is no excuse and youll look whiny if you try to use it as one. unless you had mono or something, you really can't blame it on being sick

first quarter i was sick and bombed two tests, second quarter i got an A by working really hard. so my average is a B

i actually bombed the tests right after being sick, therefore, my otherwise decent average fell drastically.
