Which would you choose? and why?

If you're not Catholic, you might factor in that the cultural fit might be easier at Georgetown. And conversely, if you are specifically interested in a Catholic environment, you might find more of it at ND.

gtown 10char

Gtown hands down unless you're looking for an environment where's there's more a) Catholicism and b) school spirit/sports, or ND has a specific program that is very strong and you're interested in (but if that was the case I don't think you'd be asking that question). Or if you prefer a campus university to an urban university in a city that's not very livable (not that the Gtown campus isn't great, it is).

In short: ND is a fine school, but Georgetown is just a league above.

I echo everything led said.

now which one's harder to get into taking into account this year's stats and stuff

I'd go with Notre Dame, simply because I love the atmosphere of the school. I don't know anything about how difficult admissions was for the two schools this past year, though.

Georgetown by miles.

1.) It's in DC, which is actually a real city
2.) I'm into international relations, languages, journalism - why would I go all the way to ND for that?
3.) Both are fairly conservative schools, but GTown less so
4.) BETTER WEATHER
5.) I hate sports

I would choose Georgetown because of the location.

Georgetown. Both are great schools though.

Notre Dame would be my choice..you guys are all making it out to be like ND is a second tier school or something. It is right on the same level as Georgetown, and not only that but Washington DC, unless you are interested in IR or related fields, is a very overrated city. Add that to the fact that id bet on Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert not returning next year (even though Green said it was 70/30) and G'Town doesnt look so great. Of course their lax team is guaranteed to be in the top 5 for the next 3 years, but ND is ND. Georgetown has only been at this level of selectivity relatively recently, ND has a much longer history of prestige. Of course, if you really dislike the Catholic influence, I would recommend Georgetown as they are far far more liberal.

"Georgetown has only been at this level of selectivity relatively recently, ND has a much longer history of prestige."

This is definitely not true. ND may have a long history of prestige in football, but Georgetown has always been considered stronger academically and ND has only come close to catching up in the last 15 years. Take a look at past threads and articles of how ND changed the focus of its academic mission in the early 1960's.

I would do Georgetown, it's a bit better overall academically and it's in DC.

I've actually never been under the impression that Georgetown was better than ND academically; quite the opposite, in fact. I guess I'm biased, though.

Georgetown, for the reasons others have mentioned.

I hate to get into one of these discussions, but throwing my hat in the ring here, I think that while certainly a top-notch, top-tier school, ND is somewhat overrated and Georgetown gets the edge for better school, imo. Fiske's Guide has Gtown at 4.5 stars (academic pens), and ND at 4, so they seem to give the edge to Gtown as well.

In any situation where other factors (religion, sports, location (not that that applies to ND!)) are big draws for X school, you can get into the slightly overrated territory--schools that are certainly good, but not as good as their high desirability seems to indicate.

My father and I feel that way especially about ND and another school generally regarded as elite that I will not name for fear of being lynched.

Again: not slamming ND. Top tier school, no doubt. Just stating my opinion.

Georgetown. Location, location, location :)

DC overrated? Only special for IR majors? Well, then, I guess for everything else good ol' South Bend, Indiana is where it's at.

...Oh, wait, nevermind. The 'shrooms are starting to wear off...

Georgetown. Hardest school I had to pass up this year--DC is absolutely amazing, and academics at Georgetown are top-notch.

I'd pick Georgetown simple because I haven't heard much about it, but from what I've heard about Notre Dame, it seems that the place is ridiculously conservative, and I wouldn't be able to live with that because I'm liberal, and off-center liberal.

Honestly, I think that at this point I would pick Georgetown. I love the urban setting! (Both schools are ranked well as far as academics go, though, obviously.) However, my parents have said "no" to going to school in DC or NYC, so my realistic pick for the two would be ND. Aww, protective parents.
