Giving a reason or two for your preference will be highly appreciated and will be helpful

thank you.

Well both are almost equal but do you have a direct admission in the mechanical engineering dept and are you an
international applicant.

In Univ of washington

@blx347 i am not a direct admit to uw and i am an international but i am direct admit for uc davis

Well, just asking are you an indian as I am one. I am also accepted in davis and washington. I am dropping out Univ of washington as it is quite difficult to get into CS and engineering majors as highly qualified students would be competing for a limited amount of seats.

@blx347 were u accepted to any other uni??

UC irvine, U of pitt, OSU,ISU,U of mass,ASU,SBU and many more. What about you?

BUMP

That direct admit is worth a lot, and probably makes UC-Davis preferable. However, Seattle is a much nicer city than Davis, and the UW campus is very nice. Still, if blx347 is correct, getting into the engineering school could be very difficult.

@NROTCgrad thank you for replying. in UW-seattle i have been admitted to pre-engineering major-College of Engineering. I would need to complete pre-reqs to get into mech. eng. .

Pre-engineering just means that you get advising to take the proper prerequisite courses so that you can apply to your desired major after completing them: http://www.engr.washington.edu/curr_students/admissions/preengr.html . Admission is competitive.

@ucbalumnus ya “competitive” word make me feel to go with uc davis… how much different ucd and uw-seattle are in terms of mech. eng. academics?

You can compare curricula here:
<a href=“Mechanical Engineering”>http://mae.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/mechanical-engineering-major/
http://www.me.washington.edu/files/students/docs/2013-14advisingguide.pdf

@ucbalumnus what i meant in the previous question was academic reputation. still links are useful, i am checking them out.

I can’t understand why anyone would apply to a school about which they had no idea of its “academic reputation.” Is this a common practice among applicants from abroad?

@LakeWashington for most of the students “academic reputation” is only based on the ranking lists. but when we compare different ranking there is lot of variation I feel. so getting extra bit of information and opinions can be important in choosing the uni to attend for next 4 years.

we can definitely compare from their website but CC has already admitted student who can offer good insight.

If it were my kid, and cost difference was not substantial, I would say go with UC Davis. Reputations are comparable but the risk of not getting into ME as a sophomore would be the deciding factor.

The rah-rah factor of PAC-12 sports is likely lost on international students. Seattle is an international city, Davis is a bit of a cow town, but proximity to both Sacramento and SF helps. We live 12 miles from UW and know lots of students there.

@magnetron thanks for replying.
