I had a horrible Freshman year (3.0 UW) but then got 4.0's for the rest (UW). W I had a 3.3 Freshman, 4.4 Sophomore, 4.6 Junior, and 4.9 Senior. So I have a good upward trend, right?

I'm first gen. Neither of my parents even graduated High School. From Virginia.

Major in Poli Science/International Relations

I would think that because of your stellar grades in sophomore and junior year, and because most schools don't put a lot of weight on freshman year, yes. You have a shot, just like everyone else at a highly prestigious institution.

Your upward trend is impressive. Write good essays, stress your EC's, esp your passion for govt. and politics. They like people who are passionate. You have a shot for sure. And you need reaches and safeties both. If you want smaller schools, like LACs, you might also try Washington and Lee.

Yeah, I'm from Harrisonburg (30 minutes from Lexington/ Washington and Lee) and used to live there. I know how W&L is and don't plan on attending.

you should try typing in your info at the counseller-o-matic on princetonreview.com or petersons.com..... Once you type in your prefrences you'll get a list of colleges to check out and only YOU know your prefrences.

... and remember that the fact that you are first generation college is weighted hugely in your favor.
I think you have a chance just about anywhere and you should pick colleges that offer what you're interested in and have the kind of culture you like and apply to them. Make sure you apply to a full range of schools so you know you'll get in somewhere, but don't hesitate to apply to reaches. You will just need to explain your freshman year and why the school you are applying to is the right place for you.

Hum...You are President of Young Democrats. I would suggest that you consider Vassar, Oberlin, Wesleyan, Macalester, Reed, GW, Brandeis and Brown.

CIA most of the colleges that are being suggested are gay/lesbian/transgender friendly so there is really no need to worry about your happiness at them. Good luck in your search.
