If you're doing marching band

you must know it's a serious commitment. Does your school allow you to replace gym by marching band?

YES!

no. COL

Yeah, I took it for a PE credit and an art credit.

No…we would attract a lot more members if it did.

Peachers, You’re so lucky!

Marching band at my school is an after school activity. We wouldn’t get half the stuff we get done done if it was only in school. It is a huge commitment. All of those practices plus your own practice at home really adds up.
2:30-5:30 Monday-Thursdays (practice until the game on Fridays) plus Saturday practices and then late nights to 9 as needed (at least once a week starting in October, sometimes in September)
Then sections that really need it are supposed to schedule sectionals on their own time.

Yup, I know the commitment. And nope, no PE credit. It’s all out of school.

Orchestra kid in marching band. Wot? Because the band needed a string quartet in the pit this year, that’s what.

I’m not eligible for the PE credit replacement, of course, but actual band kids are. Most marching band members take both of their required PE credits through it.

Im in an Orchestra and Marching band starting my Soph year. We also get to go to cool trips out-of-state like Disney Land and stuff for free.

Clarinet.

All Extra-Curriculars.

My band teacher introduced me to it since he is the head of our cities (yes the whole city) marching band.

My school offers it as a PE and fine arts credit, too… That still doesn’t make me want to join. My brother is in drumline and the earliest he comes home is 6.

At my school you have to take it 2 semesters for it to be one P.E. credit.

It my school it’s a music credit.

/drummajor

If you want to do marching band, you have to do afterschool. But since the marching band where I live has a total of 4 schools that feed into it (regular HS, MS, early college HS, and STEM HS), it is totally optional to take the class. People usually take the class freshman or senior year because they need electives or just need credits.

At my school, if you are in band you are required to be in marching band. We play at all of the home football games and parades and such. It’s not that big of a commitment you just need to know that you have to give up all high school football games to sit with the band rather than your friends and go to parades. In total it’s like 9 Saturdays of a year.
