If You've Been Accepted To UVA...

Can you please tell me what you're GPA was and your SAT/ACT scores. Also, if you are from OOS, please note that too. I would like to know what I need to shoot for when I take SAT/ACT and what I need to get GPA wise. (I'm from OOS)

I'm OSS from New Jersey and I applied ED (but i know because of the jefferson scholars. My unweighted GPA was 3.79 but i had a ton of honors and AP so my weighted would be well above 4.00. My SAT was 2200 (730 cr, 770 m, 700 w). My rank sucked but wasnt exactly disclosed. I was in the Top 20%.

OSS from Illinois
Jefferson Scholarship Candidate (semi-finalist, I guess. I went for an interview but didn't become a finalist)
SAT I: 2310 (800V 710M 800W)
ACT: 36
GPA: 4.69 (top 5% in school of over 4500 students, 1111 seniors)

OOS from Kansas
Jefferson Scholarship finalist
SAT: 2310 (800V 710M 800W)
GPA: 3.9 UW (rank 4/375)

Just to add some balance to these high scores, I'll post my sons.:)
OOS from California
SAT: 2050 (660 V 700M 690 W) (Don't you feel better now?)
GPA: 4.0 Unweighted, top 5% of class (school doesn't rank)
NOT a Jefferson Scholar
Accepted ED
Be sure to read the current thread about OOS stats. IMO, (and Dean J's,who's eminently more qualified than I) SAT scores won't make or break you at UVa

^Thank you for posting those, cganyard. May I ask what kind of ECs your son had?

My son's ECs: (We moved b/w his soph and junior year, so he had to kind of "establish" himself at his new school his junior year) Three years Student Govt (Class Vice Pres twice, Board member once, chaired various committees); Varsity soccer, four years, all area first team, etc; Club soccer, two years; played w/ USS Ronald Reagan (aircraft carrier here in San Diego) team, two years;Varsity Lacrosse, one year; Nat'l Honor Society, Vice Pres; Key Club, four years, Treasurer, one year; Ambassadors, two years, blah blah blah...You get the jist of it!

But if you're trying to figure out why he got in to UVa, I'd have to say it wasn't his EC's, but his transcript.

I was curious because his transcript is almost identical to mine.

OOS white male from public school in NJ
SAT: 2200 (700 V 800M 700 W)
GPA: 3.82 Unweighted, 4.2ish weighted; mostly honors, 6 AP's through the 4 years, top 5% of class (school doesn't rank)
NOT a Jefferson Scholar
Accepted ED
some kick arse EC's, leadership, varsity sport 4 years, coach of youth bball team, library volunteer, founded and VP'ed a club

accepted to E-school

In a nutshell, he had all honors, 7 AP's. All A's. Top five percent of class (his school does rank, but doesn't release those rankings. The highest they can estimate is top 5%. My guess is he's more like top 2%). Great recs. He's a very outgoing kid, lots of leadership skills, a solid athlete, a real rah-rah :)
But, as I said, the transcript is what makes kids like you (and him) stand out - regardless of SAT scores. And if you've got that kind of transcript, you should be awfully proud...

Best of luck to you!

Thanks guys, this really helped me out. Are there any specific scholarships I should be aware of? (other than the Jefferson)
