If you've taken the New SAT...

if you've taken it, then you don't have to take the ap lit or subject A exam right, because the new SAT has the writing part in it.
Also, if you've scored above 680 on the writing part of the new SAT, then you dont have to take the rigorous 6 credit writing course correct?

nope not true.

Taking the new SAT doesn't excuss you from anything. The old SAT didn't include Writing, but Writing was a required SAT II Subject to take.

However, if you scored a 680 or higher on the SAT Writing section of the exam, then you satisfy the requirement and don't have to take the Subject A exam. This does NOT mean that you are excussed from taking english.

However, getting a 4 or a 5 on AP English exams excuss you from the first semester of english.

twilightzer0, thats not true.

according to the page on myberkeleyapp:

"You may have already satisfied the Entry Level Writing requirement and do not need to take the examination if you have achieved one of the following:

* A minimum score of 680 on the Writing section of the SAT Reasoning Test.
* A minimum score of 30 on the combined ACT English/Writing Test.
* A minimum score of 3 on an Advanced Placement (AP) Examination in English. If you are scheduled to take an AP English exam in May 2006, you must still take the Analytical Writing Placement exam. If you do not pass the Analytical Writing Placement exam, a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam will satisfy the Entry Level Writing requirement."

the "sat reasoning" test is the NEW sat. the advising tutorial hasn't updated their page to include the details about the new SAT, but if you got over a 680 on the writing of the NEW sat, not a "subject test", you are excused from the ELW requirement. if you didnt get a 680 on the new SAT's writing section, you would have needed to take AP english in your junior year to get out of taking the Analytical Writing Placement exam this summer. I just took the AP eng. lit. test on thursday, and if I hadn't gotten a 680 on writing, I would have to take that AWP test this summer.

dude...thats the same thing I said...

I said if you got a 680 or higher on the writing section, you are excused....

I only mentioned the subject test because it seemed like pulkit was under the impression that Just because there's a writing section in the new sats, it means he's excused from the subject A exam.

thats wrong

How is that wrong? His question was:

"if you've taken it, then you don't have to take the ap lit or subject A exam right, because the new SAT has the writing part in it."

my answer was no, just taking it doesn't excuss you from anything.

You're only excussed from having to take the AWP if you do Well (>or=680) on the writing part of the new sat. Only taking it doesn't mean a thing (although I do hope all you guys did well so you wont have to take that annoying placement test). So unless I'm missing something, I don't think that's wrong.

Anyway, new subject, I feel childish argueing over something trivial like this. How is everyone's last month of school? I bet we're all excited about going to Berkeley!

this is quickly turning into a stupid semantics argument, but for the sake of it, here goes:
his whole statement:
"if you've taken it, then you don't have to take the ap lit or subject A exam right, because the new SAT has the writing part in it.
Also, if you've scored above 680 on the writing part of the new SAT, then you dont have to take the rigorous 6 credit writing course correct?"

your response said "Taking the new SAT doesn't excuss you from anything.", and then you compared it to the old SAT, as if the old one could excuse you but the new one couldnt.

like i said, semantics.

did anyone here apply with old SAT scores exclusively?

the SAT score only gets you out of entry level writing. there is also a full year of reading and composition that you have to deal with.

-a 4 or 5 on the english laguage AP test exempts you from writing and 1 semester of r&c

-a 5 on the english lit AP test gets you out of writing and both semesters of r&c.

i really hope i didnt just THINK that the Lit test was super easy. ill likely take a writing class sometime in college, but to have all these reqs. taken care of would be so very nice.

what did you write about for the hawk one? and which book did you use for the third essay?

i went through specific diction for the hawk one, i never talked about an overall message or meaning. i dont think it had one. then i went into some of the imagery and some of the meaning in the stanza breaks.

i used frankenstein by mary shelley for the third essay, that question was made for that book.
