<p>To answer your question, yes, it will affect admissions and class rank will DEFINITELY come into play. Schools don't compare GPAs from one student from one school to another student's GPA from another school, but they do compare GPA and classes taken between students at one school. If your scores aren't high, but the scores of your classmates are, then you won't have the excuse that your school doesn't prepare you well for testing. That same idea applies to lower GPAs. </p>
<p>If your school has a history of sending a lot of students to competitive schools, then the higher number of applicants shouldn't affect admissions much. But if your school isn't known for that, admissions will of course be more competitive. Remember, it's not your fault if you get in and your classmates don't and vice versa. Just because more of your classmates are applying doesn't mean that it will be any more or less competitive for you - at least when looking at the process as a whole. </p>
