HI,
I made an account just to ask this question. So I’m a second year student a De Anza College and I’m applying to transfer (Managerial Economics Major) to some UC’s (namely UC Davis and UC Berkeley) and Privates (Santa Clara University). In high school, I took Spanish for three years and didn’t do so well. My first semester of my first year of Spanish I received a “C-” and in my second I received a “F” (was made up online and received a “B”). My second year of Spanish I received a “C-” in my first and second semester. My third year I received a “D” in the first semester and a “C” in my second. I have a couple questions about this. 1) To fulfill the IGETC requirement of 2 years of LOTE (Foreign Language), is “C-” okay in either of the first two years? I researched and came with differing results. I found a pdf on my college’s transfer page that says a “C-” or better in high school completes the requirement (option #1 on http://www.deanza.edu/transfer/pdf/igetc_lote_certification.pdf.) But, my De Anza’s IGETC doesn’t specify on “C” or “C-”. It only talks about the college courses available (Area 6 on https://www.deanza.edu/transfer/pdf/ge_igetc.pdf). I’m not sure which of these is valid to complete the IGETC for UC’s. Should I take retake Spanish year one and two (would take two quarters) or am I okay with the “C-” grades in my first two years? I’ve done pretty well at my JC (3.7 GPA) and I really hope this isn’t a major hindrance on me being accepted by UC’s. Any help, advice, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Yes C- is OK. Usually you send your high school transcripts to De Anza for them to give you credit for IGETC.
if you wanted to take Spanish, I believe most CCs require only 1 course to meet the IGETC.

Thank you for the response! I just put my high school transcript on file at De Anza today. I will be sure to look at the link you provided.
