IGETC & CC questions

I'm currently a high school student studying abroad(so i cant ask a counselor) and will be going to OCC to transfer, but I'm confused about a few things.
First off, how long does it take to finish the IGETC? it says 34 semester units, so does that mean I can finish it in a year? and if it is completed in a year does that mean I would apply for UCs midway through the year?
Also if anyone has gone or goes to Orange Coast College, whats the whole enrollment process like? I've already applied now i'm just waiting. so is it just apply, get the email, make an appointment for the assessment test then do the online orientation, then i can register and then register for classes and then make an appointment with a counselor? or do i have to meet with a counselor in order to register for classes?

IGETC: 34 credits in a year is pretty normal, so sure, you could do it. Or you can spread it out over two years. Most schools assume you’ll do ~15 credits per semester, or 30 per year. That’s not a hard rule though, I did 20 credits some semesters, and others here have done even more. You can also take on less, and spend more years in CC, if you prefer a slower pace or have other things (like work) going on.

No, you can’t just finish IGETC and be good to go. You need 60+ credits completed, and a couple other requirements. You should also be doing your major’s pre-reqs (see assist.org) if you want to get in. But the important thing here is that UC wants junior transfers, and that means you need to finish 60 credits before you transfer.

No, you don’t apply midway through the year. You apply at the start of your sophomore year, applications are due in November, and you’ll be applying for fall admissions. Some UCs offer Spring admission, but you don’t really apply for that, it just sorta happens. If you plan to do TAG, that’s due really early, September I think? Make sure you know the due dates, they’re early! But that’s not til next year, unless you’ve got a whole lot of AP credits.

failure622 is right.

Regarding OCC, yeah you just wait for the email, then do all that matriculation business / testing. Afterwards you should be able to register. I believe they also want you to meet with a counselor at some point in the first semester you are there, but you can do that whenever.
