Hello everyone,

This should probably seem obvious, but if you completed 2 years of a foreign language in high school do you still need to fulfill the IGETC foreign language requirement?

Do the UCs offer a placement test once you're admitted?

Can you still be IGETC certified without completing the requirement?

Thanks!

Yes, you can use foreign language from high school with a C or better to fulfill the requirement, but the it must be two years of the same language. You can also use SAT II language scores (depends on the language), AP scores (other than English) with a 3 or higher, or IB scores (other than English) with a 5 or higher.

They do offer placement tests if you did not take any foreign languages at your current college and if your major requires a foreign language. Other than that, I don’t know.

I’m not sure you can be certified without meeting all the requirements…
