IGETC/General Education Question

ok, so i want to transfer to ucb, and have to take either general education/breadth requirements or igetc. i have 3 questions:

can i use ap credit of 3 or higher for igetc?

on assist.org, i’m confused about area 8 for igetc (interim critical thinking). do i have to take it?

for igetc, do i have to take language other than english if i already did at least 2 years of foreign language in high school?

I took 2 AP tests my senior year of high school

One was the english one, and one was the spanish language one

I got a 4 on the english and a 5 on the spanish…
PCC let me skip english 1A but I still had to take 1B and 1C (critical thinking)
I didn’t have to take any foreign language at all…but I also took 4 years of spanish in high school so not sure how that works!

1) Yes, most likely you can use AP credits of three and higher. But let me warn you, some require a 4 or higher so you will have to check with your counselor. Also, at my school, a year after i started there, they effectively canceled the AP credit benefits. This did not affect me however seeing as i entered before they canceled it. So all these things you should definitely check with your counselor. But most likely at least some AP credits should count.

2) i have no idea what area 8 is, mine only had 6 areas

3) No more foreign language for you! 2 years is the minimum so congrats.

But i suggest you spend time with a counselor because they can definitely answer all the questions you asked and more.

thanks guys, also:

is there any limit to how many ap credits you can use?

do online classes affect your chances of admission?

no online classes are the same as normal classes, so that shouldn’t affect anything.

and i had a friend who transferred up to a whole year of AP classes to UCB.
i believe he took about 10 in high school, and all of them transferred.

and as for your language, send your transcripts to your ccc, and they should waive the requirement. Sometimes UC’s prefer 3 years. so find that out before…
