So, I was accepted to UCSC under the major Psychology.

An issue arose that may keep me from finishing the Science/Lab requirement for the IGETC. I will have 60 Units prior to transferring. The class is Bio 103 (Botany). Does anyone have experience with an issue like this? Can you still transfer without the IGETC fully being completed (minus one requirement)? I have an email out to UCSC and will call tomorrow.

From what that site says, Santa Cruz is a “complete prior to enrollment” school. That’s all well and good, but summer course a pain to enroll/crash.

I was recently told by my counselor that completion of the IGETC is not a requirement. It’s a common misconception. Yes it’s very important to finish the IGETC but if you even go on assist.org, it says the UC RECOMMENDS completion of IGETC, they don’t REQUIRE it, so there is still a chance. I’m applying to a different UC as a diff. major, so sorry if I’m completely off base.

I haven’t finished my Lab also, I’m in the exact same position and I’ve gotten acceptances from UCSD, UCSB, UCD and UCI. Still waiting on UCB and UCLA. So depending on your stats I think you’ll be fine.

^^ Oh, no you’re correct, I misread Science/Lab as Science Lab. Well then you may be in a tougher position, but nonetheless, you should be okay if you have great grades. Conditional acceptance is probably a viable option. You should talk to the UCs as soon as possible about this issue.

yo, I’m going to ucsb and also had to drop a science requirement. I emailed them 2 weeks ago and they have said nothing back to me so I’m pretty sure its all good. Although I can’t say for sure whether ucsc will care

Being one course short of igetc definitely isn’t grounds for being rescinded in my opinion

If you told them you were going to take a class that you will no longer be taking, that can pose a problem.

If you were relying on TAG to get in, the problem is worse.

If you didn’t TAG, you may be alright. If you did TAG, you still may be alright. But your acceptance is based on the information contained within your application being 100% correct. If they accept you based on false premises, they can rescind for this reason…however they may choose not to.

It will need to be dealt with on case by case basis. We can’t offer you a definitive yes or no because the decision belongs to them.

Furthermore, transfer does not require completion of IGETC…that only matters for TAG. But as stated, if you said you were going to complete IGETC and failed to, you may run into a problem.

I didn’t TAG.
The issue just arose this week, so it’s not as if I was sitting on this for a long time. That’s not to say I’m not at fault for not carrying through though.
I talked to a counselor over the phone today. She said that there shouldn’t be an issue and that it would be overlooked by the admission’s office. I sent the email and will be waiting a week to find out if I’m rescinded or not. Fun times!

@sad- i think you need to take english 101 and 102/3 or the equiv at your school. There’s no getting out of english to my knowledge.
edit: unless you passed the AP English exam in high school.

(Proficiency equivalent to 2 years of high school study in the same language)
LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH
French 001A, 001B, 002A, 002B,
Spanish 001A, 001B, 002A, 002B, 020A, 020B
Sign Language 001B, 002A, 002B
Vietnamese 001A, 001B
CSU does not require completion of Foreign Language

I was wondering, since I took 3 years of Spanish at my highschool if that was good enough.

“IGETC is not an admissions requirement. Completing it is not required, nor does it guarantee admission to the campus or program of choice. However, completing the lower division breadth/general education requirements — through IGETC or the campus-specific requirements (depending upon the program) — may improve a transfer applicant’s chances for admission to a competitive campus and/or program.”

My counselour have told me that it is not a requirement either. I just got an acceptance from UCSD, but their contract says that IGETC must be complete. I still have one science class to finish.
