So, I'm reading horror stories about UCLA rejections and was wondering if you guys could offer me some advice. I'll be applying in fall for an impacted major (comm) and I have to choose pre-requisites done by fall, IGETC complete by spring (only missing one class) or IGETC by fall and pre-requisistes done by spring...I would REALLY appreciate the advice!

Pre-req completion is FAR FAR FAR more important than IGETC. And UC admissions don’t determine IGETC completion during the time your application is being evaluated. IGETC certification is handled exclusively by your CC, so when you apply an admission officer won’t know whether or not you’ve actually completed IGETC (they still ask on the UC APP/TAU) until after you send your IGETC certification form along with your transcripts from your CC by July 15th. Finish your pre-requisites as early as possible, so that admissions has certainty that you’re prepared to start taking upper-divsion courses in your major and that you’ll graduate in a suitable amount of time. Also IGETC ISN’T mandatory for admission, so pre-reqs should definitely be your main priority. Also the math and english requirements are equally as important to finish by Fall. Your focus should be math/english requirements > pre-reqs > IGETC

Thank you so much! You have no idea how helpful that was!

Besure to get your Math and English courses done! And finish IGETC for back up in case you don’t get accepted to UCLA or CAL; so at least you can apply to other UC’s.

Thank you! yeah i was so close to doing my math spring before transfer but now that I’m reading this I’m taking a math summer class so i can finish my pre-req math in fall!!
