Hello everyone. I am attending UCSD this fall. I submitted my transcripts before the July 1 deadline but I just figured out I was supposed to send a partial IGETC certificate by July 1 as well. I just applied for the certificate and I’m not sure how long it will take to be ready before I can send it to San Diego. For some reason, my CC counselor said it wouldn’t be ready until fall but I’m not sure if he knew what he was talking about. I never even knew there was such thing as partial IGETC before a couple days ago. Any advice?
Call UCSD and let them know your IGETC will be partial and late.
Why is it partial instead of complete?
Edit: actually, call and email them
Lol. He knows what he’s talking about. Don’t bash the poor guy.
IGETC takes long to prepare and then the school mails it out. If he’s saying Fall, it’s because they’re probably backed up on requests. You should have submitted the paperwork months ago.
@LuckyName are you talking about me ‘bashing’ OP, or OP ‘bashing’ his counselor?
If it helps, I think UCLA’s IGETC deadline was like September something
Don’t worry OP. They’re used to getting late IGETCs. But it should only take a couple of weeks or so to process. Go in and re-verify.
I know I should have filed the paperwork months ago. It was stupid of me not to. But I didn’t even know partial IGETC was a real thing. On my application, I indicated I was NOT going to complete IGETC. However, I’m only one or two classes short of completing it. Could I get rescinded over this?
@luckie1367 him bashing his counselor, lol. Your reply wasn’t there when I posted, haha.
IGETC deadline is always super late. Its months after the transcript deadline. You should be fine
Lol. I didn’t mean to bash my counselor. He was very nice but I’ve been given misinformation from prior counsellors so I’m always skeptical. I’ll contact ucsd and let them know I’ll send it as soon as possible.
^Good plan
In my opinion no you can not be rescinded because IGETC is not a requirement at the UCs it is only a recommendation. If you have not fulfilled all the requirements you can receive a partial IGETC and you would take your missing gen eds at the UC you are attending. I’m partial IGETC missing a science w/o lab because the UCs don’t accept CLEP but CSUs did.
At UCI they told us we have until the end of fall quarter to get our IGETC in. If we don’t they take our classes and put them in their gen eds and we have to meet their requirements. They say you want to avoid that because you will end up taking even more classes so always get an IGETC or partial if you can.
UCSD admissions told me to just send them the certificate when it’s ready. Won’t be an issue at all. Crisis averted
