IGETC question

Basically, I realized that I won't have the full IGETC completed. By the end of Spring 13, I will be short 1 Spanish class (taking a first semester Spanish class for the Spring, won't be able to take a 2nd until some point after). This is my fault for avoiding school counselors and just misunderstanding/not checking into things thoroughly. My number one goal is an MCB major at UCB, or Bio at UCLA. I have a 3.8 GPA with A's in calc1,calc2, bio, chem, o-chem, most of my B's are in philosophy, economics, etc (unrelated to my major, but I understand that doesn't excuse me). Everything is taken care of except this one Spanish class, and I don't know how to handle it. From what I'm gathering (and this may yet be wrong), UCLA and Berkeley do not accept non-full-IGETC transfers, which is distressing to say the least (I thought this stuff was only supposed to be optional?).

I'm going to go through with the application anyway.

Could I study and prepare for a foreign language test to fulfill this req.? Is this sort of plan feasible?

Does anyone see/know of a solution to my problem?

Should I still realistically be hopeful for UCB for a MCB major, or UCLA for biology, or is my app simply not considered without the full IGETC certification?

I haven't called them yet, but that is probably the next thing I'm going to do. Thanks for taking a look at this thread, I will appreciate any sort of advice.

So you’re going to take 1 Spanish class during the Spring? You only need one to fulfill IGETC.

You should be very hopeful as you completed all your pre-reqs with A’s. I believe UCB and UCLA are the ones that really look at each course you took. Thing is, your major is very impacted, still, you got a good chance

I would just put Spanish 2 as a planned course in the summer. They don’t look at Summer grades, but you can hope they would understand lol.

Is this true? A Spanish 101 class fulfills IGETC? This is what I’m confused about lol

Yes, It fulfills IGETC. Check your IGETC program. It should say 1 college course in a different language or something like that.

@Brag: Check your CC’s IGETC worksheet. It depends on each CC. Mine requires two semesters to fulfill the requirement.

@art are you on a quarter system?

Nope, semester

Waaaaahhh? That’s weird because I only need one class. @brag definetly check your IGETC then.

Two years of HS Espanol = win

I will be checking with my CC to see what the conditions for certification are. Mer, Art, and Mental, thank you for helping me out!
