IGETC Question

Hey, maybe you guys can help me out with a little problem I'm having with IGETC. I have a DAP/GTO contract with UCLA, and I'm unsure of whether or not I should get IGETC certified. If I don't, do I run the chance of repeating lower division general ed classes? I'm asking because I really don't want to take Art, or a Science course if I don't have to. On my contract, it states that I have to.."Meet UC subject eligibility- two courses in English Comp, One course in Math, four in two of the following three areas- Arts/Humanities, Social Behavioral Sciences, and Physical/Biological Science." According to that, I can just complete the Social Sciences and ARts/Humanities, right? And not take any science classes? Will I have to take any science/art classes to graduate with a BA though? My major is Poli Sci/Geography, so I'm recommended to follow IGETC. I guess my main question is what happens if I DON'T follow IGTEC? Whenever I ask a counselor, I get conflicting information from another. Your help is much appreciated!

look at <a href="http://www.assist.org%5B/url%5D">www.assist.org</a> and talk to counselor...

If you don't complete IGETC you are subject to completing the GE requirements of the school you transfer to. Chances are you are going to regret not completing IGETC because you'll probably end up having to take many more classes, and I’m sure you need to take science classes to receive a bachelors degree. Remember, IGETC is not a requirement for admission to a UC school, but it helps you graduate on time especially for social science/humanities majors, which you indeed are. So your contract is telling you that you need to fulfill the UC subject eligibility to be considered for admission, but this will not satisfy the GE requirements.

Ohh...I see. So the UC subject eligibility is just the MININUM I have to complete to just qualify for UC admission, but the IGETC is to show that I've finished my General Ed at my JC. Thanks a lot!
