IGETC required for Aerospace Engineering Transfer?

I’ll be applying to transfer from a California community college into Cal Poly this Fall for Aerospace engineering and was wondering if IGETC is required. If it isn’t required, could it potentially boost my chances of admission if I do complete it?

Cal Poly is my top school of transfer (even over Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSB) and want to make sure I get in. My GPA will be around a 3.6-3.7 when I apply this Fall, I’m president of my schools Astronomy & Astrophysics club, a member of the science club etc. I’ve heard that Cal Poly chooses students based on a point factor from 4 different categories (major reqs, general ed reqs, extra curriculars, and GPA I think). Can anyone elaborate on this?

I did not do IGETC and got accepted from a CCC. Many schools do not require IGETC for mechanical engineering (Aero is an offshoot of ME) and some (like UCB) even recommend against it.

A personal piece of advice, don’t rely on people here or at your CCC for information that could easily disqualify you from attending SLO–or other schools for that matter. Use assist.org, university websites, and university counselors. I’ve seen several students lose their chance at admission because of poor advice from a friend or community college counselor.

So would you say that following IGETC is bad advice? Does it state anywhere on the Cal Poly website that IGETC isn’t a factor for admission for engineering? Even if it barely helps out I’d rather complete IGETC, it seems that transferring for engineering is really tough at this school. :(

Does anyone know?
