I attend community college. I planned to transfer to UC, but am planning trasfer to CSU due to tuition. So, I have been completing GEs according to IGETC, and now I got little confused. I know both UC and CSU accept IGETC, but CSU also accepts CSU GE Breadth, which requires little more GE classes like 3 units more in scientific area and 3 units more in lifelong learning and self-development. If I don’t take them at community college, will I have to do at CSU? I just want to take major courses and upper division GE courses at CSU. If it does not matter, to complete IGETC, do I need to take a foreign language class, which CSU does not require? By the way, I graduated from high school abroad.

Also, I am planning to have total 72 units at community college, but I heard that UC and CSU accept up to 70 units. Does it mean that I should not exceed 70 units?

Thank you.

Go to a UC the tuition difference is covered by the cal grant or the blue and gold Oppurtunity plan.

Unless you are a bio or engineering major do IGETC otherwise it’s more classes at a CSU and they are more likely to admit you UC or CSU if you complete IGETC or plan on completing it at a CC.

Yes the 70 units is true but you can exceed it and the classes will count just not the unit total

The IGETC is only for UCs. You want to do the CSU Cert for CSUs.

Smurray09: the CSU system is obliged to accept IGETC as satisfactory completion of all GE requirements ask any counselor at a CC or a CSU campus. Which is why on IGETC it states specific CSU requirements such as a speech class or the History Requirement, look it up.

But honestly the UC’s are better schools and you can get tuition coverage via the cal grant or blue and gold look into it!

Thank you!

But I am an international student so =´(

The only reason why I say CSU Cert instead of IGETC or whatever it’s called is because CSUs I applied for asked for that one. Not the IGETC. They (CSUs) told me that the IGETC was mainly for UCs.
