IHP question

I was accepted into the International Honors Program at Alabama and I intend to use it to study abroad; however, I was looking at studying in the United Kingdom. Since the primary language there is english, what should I do about fulfilling the foreign language requirement?

You can take any language to fulfill the requirement. Here’s the link to the IHP page.

Congrats, sirbumpy.

My D will also be IHP.

Any chance they would let me replace one of the listed languages with Latin?

You can always ask, but I believe that the students who come in with Latin backgrounds from high school must take two years of a “spoken” language to meet the IHP requirement.

Sirbumpy, there are LOTS of languages to choose from -

[The University of Alabama Critical Languages Center](http://bama.ua.edu/~clc/)

I hope you can find one that interest you.

When I e-mailed Dr. Oneal about the language requirement, she replied that she was just looking for 2 years worth of credit in foreign language. AFAIK, they are not offered at UA, but if you had credit for ASL or an American Indian language, you could probably get them to count that, though I wouldn’t guarantee it.

Since you want to study in the UK, maybe the CLC has another language that interests you and that you still might hear in the UK, maybe Hindi or Farsi.
