IIC scores

I only knew of 3 wrong but I did not have anyone to discuss the answers with.
Should I retake, if I am applying to 2nd tier engineering schools, the ones right below MIT,Stanford, Caltech?
I checked MIT’s site for reference and the 25-75 is 740-800. Same for Harvey Mudd.

Mine 800. Percentile 90 =))

10% of test takers got a maximum score :( Is there anybody still think that's a good test ?

Hi. Like I was wondering.... if you applied for MIT, isn't their deadline for SATs the January test term? They finish going trough applications on March, and since the next SAT MathIIC is not until March, meaning the results are April.......will they consider it for you.....

750, very dissapointed. they lie:) I did everything

lol math 1c is a joke...........i got 780....getting 2 hours of sleep because of some **** ......99%.....lol this is great...what an easy test...and i studied for 2c and all i could get was 750 on 2c..hopefully this helps

damn, an 800 on SAT I, and only a 780 on IIc, usually people score the other way around! damn it!

760........why the hell are these scores so inflated!!!!!!

It is very inflated but the kids taking it are generally smarter than others. Also, there has to be an incentive for taking higher (harder) math.
Hayden, POed about a lower IC score or something?

I'm in 11th grade btw, and probably not applying to MIT. I was only using it for reference. I think I'll retake it because I have to take another SAT II on a different date anyway.

I obsessed mentally over the 3 problems I got wrong. I know i got more wrong but I had a sunday test so I could not find anyone to discuss the test with. I felt confident coming out of the test, but as time went on I realized my mistakes. One solution just popped into my head after not thinking about it for an hour.

780 i am so disappointed

Does the official score report show your raw score?

i got 800 math iic, but will colleges actually see how many u missed to compare it to other 800's?

I almost 100% positive that colleges don't see how many you missed. All they get from collegeboard is the score and the percentile. If you have any new info or if i am wrong, let me know. Oh! And I'm crying in joy for getting an 800 on the math 2c. Not literally.

hey, i got an 800 but it was in the 90th percentile. do colleges see the 90? does it count against me?

what do you mean it counts against you?
what do colleges expect, 810?

well, if that's the case. 800 is the highest you can get no matter how many you missed so a 90% isn't so bad. It just means that 10% of takers got 800 too. to colleges, i think score is more important

ashernm, if you are applying to "second tier" schools, I really wouldn't be worried about a 760; that's a great score. What do you consider "second tier" schools anyways? Just curious, because I am thinking about an engineering major as well.

And I respect all of you, and I'm sure all of you deserved to ace this test... But are you honestly upset with getting 750s and 760s?... not to mention being worried about getting a 780 and 800? I know that we are all pushed to be the best we can be... and often pushed to be better than everyone else. Still, I believe that all of you should be extremely proud of yourselves for getting your scores, and don't lose perspective. I relaly think that not a single college will reject you, or even consider you a weaker applicant, because you got a 740 instead of a 800.

wishful thinker, Math IIC scores are notorious for having a relatively high percentage of takers getting an 800. It is nothing out of the ordinary to be in the 90th percentile, and of course colleges willl have expected nothing more.

By the way, did anyone have trouble accessing January SAT scores online? Noone from my school was able to; on our informal listing, it still just listed "registered" under the status instead of the score. I thought maybe it was a problem with our school because of snow that day, but now the website is having trouble as well...

780, this is ********. ill retake with chem in may

Normally, SAT scores in the mid to high 700s are excellent, and it's silly to retake (although many do). However, I am convinced that Math IIC is the exception: it is so generously curved, and there are so many perfect scores, that a 790 really isn't "practically the same" as an 800 (as opposed to a 790 on the math SAT I, which bears very little difference from an 800). Anything less than 800 means that there were at least 4-5 problems missed (often higher, depending on the curve). On a test with only 50 problems, and where most of the problems are pretty easy, that's significant.

So... honestly, if you're looking towards an education in any science or math related field, and are interested in a top university, you should definitely retake the math IIC if your score is <800. I can't see into the minds of admissions officers - maybe they don't care - but I think there's a good chance that they might.

Haha, okay okay... I suppose mrognlie makes a good point. As he says, it might-just make sure you don't do worse the second time around. :)
I still can't help but wish that we didn't have to be as test-driven... but that's life.

hmm so i'm whacked.. 660 on the IIc... missed 17 q's..
still don't know how the time passed so fast
