Hello,

Has anyones shopped at IKEA in New Haven? How is the price? Thanks for any inputs/comments/suggestions.....

Can we purchase it online and pick up at the store? Or it can be purchased online and deliver it to the dorm/college?

Prices at IKEA New Haven are the same as prices at any other U.S. Ikea, which are the same as the prices at online U.S. Ikea site. I believe you can check inventory for a specific item at a specific store via the website.

Three years ago I checked and it was not possible to order online and pick up in a store–check the IKEA website to see if this has changed. I think when you buy at the IKEA in New Haven, there is some kind of a delivery system for a fee, but if you’re going to be there, way cheaper to take it with you. Everything comes unassembled–very easy to assemble though, don’t worry. Even couches–they come in long boxes. I was worried about transporting things in a rental car, but we got a car where the backseats fold down and were able to slide things in–picked up a full futon couch and a chair and transported them in a compact economy rental car.

I would suggest getting there right away when you arrive though–as it is very busy move-in weekend and things sell out quickly!

If you have a smallish rental or personal car and can’t fit your Ikea swag into it, you CAN rent vehicles at the Budget counter on the ground floor of the New Haven Ikea.

We did this last year, and accomplished the move in under two hours for minimal cost, and we were able to time the move so that we could find curb space and unload on our schedule, not at the convenience of the IKEA delivery service.

Important Warning!!! Reserve a vehicle days before you are actually going to need it. On the day we shopped, there wasn’t a line at the Budget counter, so I didn’t worry about it. The next day when I went back to finalize purchases and rent the truck, there was a line 10 deep, and they ran out of rental vehicles right away. This is the busiest time of year for this store, obviously! Based on last year, Saturday of move-in weekend was the worst. If you can get over there on Thursday or Friday, do it.

Best wishes, new Bulldog parents!

riverrunner, what a great tip! thanks so much.
