I'll Chance back/read essays!!! Chance me for selective schools? :)

My parents and I immigrated to the US when I was about 1 1/2 years old. By the time I was 3, I overstayed my visa, so I'm undocumented. I found out when I was trying to get docs for a learner's permit.

I've lived here all my life and I definitely plan on going to college this year. Is this going to kill me in the admissions process, especially because I'm really poor and need A LOT of financial aid.

Here are my stats:
SAT: 740 CR 710 M 800 W (2250)
SATII: USH 760 World 720 Math1 690 (EW) (I took lit and math1, scores back in a week)
AP: World Hist - 5, Psych - 5, US History - 5, Eng Lit - 4
Pending/Current (all Aps): Calc, Spanish, Environmental Science, American Gov, English
GPA: 4.19 W 3.97 UW
Rank: Top 2% 14/600

ECs: average/low-ish :/
many school awards
and a couple of national awards (for academics, like being recognized for the National Achievement Scholarship-PSAT).
I'm in a few of the National Honor Socities,
Model UN, school newspaper, volunteered with health department and coordinated outreach and stuff, etc.
I'm the president of one club

Essays: Probably good, I write well
Recs: 1 average, 1 outstanding
"Hooks": URM, 1st Generation to go to college, Female? :P

These are schools I'm looking at:
U of Chicago
Cornell
Dartmouth
Amherst
Wesleyan
Oberlin
Bryn Mawr
William and Mary
Virginia Tech
Drexel
Hofstra

Thanks in advance guys, and don't forget to leave a link if you want me to chance you :)

bump10char

I really don’t have much info for liberal arts schools, but the rest of your schools are definitely a match, except Dartmouth may be a reach just because everyone applying is on par or has better specs than you do. Cornell on the other hand may be a match, plus they also have the guaranteed transfer program which means you might be denied for entrance in the freshmen class, but if you meet a certain GPA requirement, you will be guaranteed admission your sophomore year. Good luck!!

Hofstra? lol shouldn’t even be a safety for you

Thanks! I’m only applying to hofstra because they sent me a free VIP app haha :)

I agree with flyboylte, with Dartmouth it might be a reach, but the others definitely seem like a match! …nice rank btw! 2%!

Thanks for the chances, and I know most of them are super competitive but why not? I hope my essays are good enough though :)

U of Chicago - low/med reach
Cornell - reach/low reach
Dartmouth - low reach
William and Mary - match
Virginia Tech - low match
Drexel - lol
Hofstra - lol

Chance me back on northwestern and uchicago thread?

I hope “lol” is a good thing  and I know this might be a stupid question, but do you guys think I could get away with not sending recommendation letters to drexel & hofstra since I’m not using common app for them and it it would be a pain to print out their individual forms? and is there a chance I could get waitlisted or rejected at them since my scores are a lot higher than the averages and they’re obvious safeties?

I don’t think colleges will reject you for being too good xD I think they’d definitely want you because you’d raise their averages :stuck_out_tongue: You have a very impressive class rank/ gpa / class load / SAT score, so I can see UChicago as a possibility, although you might wanna look at their financial aid package if that’s going to be problem :x. Other than that, I’m not entirely sure, but I think you do have chances at the harder schools (Cornell, UChicago, etc) Good Luck! Sorry I wasn’t more of help xD

~FinalWorld

haha thanks I wouldn’t think so but I keep hearing about how they want to protect their yield. Hofstra asks me where else I’m applying and I don’t want to answer lol. And every school except the public ones and the last 2 meet 100% of aid to all students, so I basically just have to worry about actually getting in. fingers crossed

Any other chances? I’ll chance back! :)

The Ivies are low reaches, but your chances are very good of getting in.
The rest you won’t have any problems getting into.
Chance me

I’m not sure about the LACs but everything else looks good, UChicago could go either way but you stand a good chance. Good luck.

U of Chicago–match
Cornell–low reach
Dartmouth–reach
Amherst–match/very low reach
Wesleyan–match
Bryn Mawr–match
William and Mary–low match
Virginia Tech–low match

You have an excellent app and I wish you all the best in your applications!! (:

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1430922-how-ridiculously-low-my-chances.html</a></p>

URM helps, scores/grades look good. ECs are somewhat weak, like you mentioned, but it’s good that you’re a president of one club. U of Chicago, Cornell, Dartmouth, Amherst are all pretty tough, but I see you getting into the others. I think it depends on how much URM/first gen helps - I really have no idea how much consideration Chicago, Dartmouth, etc give those factors.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1430767-i-swore-i-wouldnt-give-ask-chances-but-here-i-am-pton-rice-emory.html</a></p>

Finished all chances! Anyone else? :)
