I'm currently a Junior and am starting to focus on schools.
Top choices: NYU, Brown (reach, I know) BU, UW, UCLA, Cornell
Will settle for: UMass
I'm hoping to see how likely I am in getting in to those, if I am aiming to high, what to do to improve my chances, or perhaps suggestion schools.
Sorry about some vague points, but this is all that's concrete so far;

Are there also some extra things I listed that would maybe not improve my chances if I put them on the application?

NYU - high match
Brown - high reach; you need more APs
BU - match
UW - don’t know which school you’re talking about
UCLA - high match
Cornell - high reach
UMass - safety

You have great test scores and you will have the best chance at schools without holistic admissions.

nyu-high match
cornell-reach
brown-higher reach

your weakness is in your gpa and courses, and to be honest they are both far weaker than the lower average of the above 3 schools. your sat and ecs are amazing, however. I suggest self-studying some APs.

eh, that’s a bummer…If I get all As (again, my school doesnt do GPA so i dont know my exact GPA) in the next 2 terms and next year would I be better for NYU? That’s my absolute dream school

I don’t do chances, but you might want to include your UC GPA for accuracy. If you are NOT from California, make sure you pay attention to required courses, especially the arts requirement. if you ARE from California, you probably know that. BTW, great resume, but I don’t think there is such a thing as a “match” to UCLA. Here’s the profile of the 09 class. note almost 40m percent of the students with perfect numbers don’t get admitted.

Thanks for the link Shrinkrap, that was actually really helpful. Im not from Cali, and UCLA is a bit of a stretch but I hear they like the artsy things (journalism, piano, etc) so I may have a higher chance of a scholarship there than elsewhere.

Artsy scholarships will be VERY competitive, and not worth a lot of $$$ at UCLA if I’m not mistaken. Academic merit is also limited, as is need based financial aid. OTOH, if you get into a performing or other arts program, it might be worth the 50+K/year, and “we” would LOVE to have your money (smile)!

The UW GPA could be higher for Brown. Assuming you’re in CA, you’re solid for UCLA and NYU (I’ll assume you aren’t applying to one of their super-competitive colleges) You’re also in the range for Cornell, though when you think about the HYP applicants using it as a backup, it’s not the most reassuring picture. (I’m in the same boat as you, in this scenario.)
