I'm getting a great recommendation from my counselor and 2 of my teachers (my Latin teacher I've had for 6 years and Forensics Coach/TOK teacher I've had since 9th grade).

I think my Common App. Essays and Supp Essays are more than average good.
I'm definitely mentioning that I was born in S. Korea, moved to Malaysia, and moved here at the end of 3rd grade. I had fragmented English when I moved here so I had to learn English while in an English setting.

I speak fluently in Korean, English, and Latin if that counts =P

the two people above me have overestimated you. Your SAT scores are good, but by no means stellar. You have a TON of ECs and awards listed here, but on the actual application, you will have to choose only your major awards/ECs.

You do have a good of a chance as anybody else, though. Seems as though you will get great teacher recs. and make sure to highlight your passion for forensics.

I wrote about forensics for the Short Essay (150words) and for the ECs, I just did the generic “Violin, Dance, Public Speaking, and Volunteering” and under each, I put down the specific activities that I did.

Do you think that’s okay? Should I expand on what 7th UP and SODA is on my addition info part?

Your interest in Latin/forensics shows! Your application is very well filled, though the Common App only asks for a handful, so it will be fun to choose your favorites. hahaha  SAT scores aren’t bad in the slightest, but Ivies would probably want something in the 2200s.

-William and Mary-in
-Columbia-match
-Cornell-match
-Duke-in
-Harvard-high reach (as for all)
-NYU-in
-Princeton-high reach (note Princeton)
-UVA-match
-Virginia Tech-safety
-VCU (back up school)-ditto

Your SAT’s improved greatly (look a lot better!), SAT II’s are fine, GPA is great (valedictorian always helps), transcript is unbelievable (espec. taking HS Classes since 6th grade), and your EC’sawards are endless; even more impressive is the leadership you have in most of them! The personal story is definitely going to catch admissions’ officers’ eyes too. Here are my chances:

-William and Mary: In (if ur in-state like I think, this is a lock)
-Columbia: Reasonable Reach
-Cornell: Match
-Duke: Low-Reasonable Reach
-Harvard: BIG Reach (for everyone, haha)
-NYU: In
-Princeton: HUGE reach (lol, ditto)
-UVA: Match
-Virginia Tech: In
-VCU (back up school): In

I really like your list except for Harvard and Princeton. Keep one, but those 2 are way off your mark.

May I suggest:

 • UNC Chapel Hill
 • Georgetown
 • Boston College
 • Carnegie Mellon

Hope this helps!! Plz Chance Back (on the 2.0 thread)

Maybe collegeboard should give me 200 free points >.<

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks!

I’ve already written all my supp. essays for Harvard and Princeton so I’m going to apply for both.

As of now, I don’t have time to write essays for other colleges!
I’ve already considered UNC but decided I probably wouldn’t go there.

likely in at all except for HP, which of course are reaches…the only tricky ones could be duke and cornell, which are hugh matches at the toughest.

William and Mary - match
Columbia - high reach
Cornell - low reach
Duke - low match
Harvard - high reach
NYU - match
Princeton - high reach
UVA - i have no idea
Virginia Tech - you’re in
VCU - you’re in

although there is a general saying that harvard is reach for everyone, but i’d say you are almost in,at least a very good chance, the SAT will kill your chance a little bit, especially most harvard students get higher on critical reading than math.I do think trilingual(especially lain) will be a huge boost.

One other point , you were born in Korea, then moved to Malaysia, then went to us,your life experience is very impressive for the admission office, harvard likes this kind of student, which
would help bringing diversity.

-William and Mary–In
-Columbia–Low Reach
-Cornell–High Match
-Duke–Low Reach
-Harvard–High Reach (as it is for everyone… Though you have a better chance than many)
-NYU–In
-Princeton–Medium Reach
-UVA–In
-Virginia Tech–In
-VCU (back up school)–In

@ Abrahemgen
Thanks! But I’m kind of thinking that there are a lot of people out there that have lived in various countries like I have that are prob. applying to Harvard =/

Thanks everyone! More suggestions welcomed!

i think a lot those colleges are similar in difficulty you have around 40% chance, except HYP, which is like… 10% chance or less (but same for all).

good luck!

Great EC’s, good stats for most schools. Maybe a few will want to see them a little higher, but I think your EC’s make up for them. You might consider writing up a college resume that lists all your activities and then upload that to the additional information section. By posting this chance thread, you already have the vast majority of the work done.
