I'll try asking one more time

Hello folks. Where on earth are you getting these Dodmerb packets from? I already have a file on the candidate log in... but other than that Im lost. Thank you.

^^^^^
The packets are sent by either DODMERB or their support contractor, Concorde, Inc.

USMA will send your name to DoDMERB as you become competitive for an offer of admission. Some applicants will get sent to DoDMERB in the summer based on the quality of their pre-candidated questionaiire - others will have to wait.

If you haven't received anything yet, don't panic. If you want to get it sooner then apply for an AROTC scholarhship - which should be a part of your back up plan anyway.

I think many of those who already received the packets went to SLS. At least that's the case with our daughter.

I've heard that rumor too, that the "highly competetive" candidates will get their DODMERB physical request forms earlier than "other" candidates, but I don't know how much weight that holds.

Relax, fill out the forms you can fill out, and enjoy your summer, Mister Sinister - the forms will come in time for you to submit your appilication before the deadline.

It isn't a rumor - it is directly from the USMA admissions web site.
http://admissions.usma.edu/Prospectus/step_04.cfm

Those who went to SLS would be among the first group to get DoDMERB info - they started their application sooner and are a pretty highly qualified group.

This is the deal:
Physicals cost money - USMA is not going to spend money on someone who is not "competitive".

USMA will start issuing LOA's to very highly qualified candidates very soon - even before the 2nd Step Application goes out. They will get their DoDMERB physicals first, because obviously they have to be medically qualified to get that appointment. These are the kids that USMA wants to woo away from Ivy's and other highly selective schools. Their version of early admission.

Now, an admissions officer told my daughter a "dirty little secret" two years ago. Apply for an AROTC scholarship. Once Cadet command has your application and transcripts they will send your name to DoDMERB and you can get your physical done quicker. Or you can hang out and wait until the Fall. DoDMERB gets very busy in the fall and winter and remedials and waivers can take a very long time.

Great info queenbee89, thanks!

Probably not a bad idea to read carefully and be thorough during the entire application process. The link provided above says:

"......Candidates who pass the initial screening will receive a Candidate Kit and scheduling instructions for their physical fitness test. Medical examinations will be scheduled as candidates become competitive for offers of admission....."

Probably best to not read more into that then what it says. Terms like 'initial screening' and 'competitive' can probably be interpreted to mean many different things and only those actually doing the screening know exactly what that means.

Sorry I didn't mention this earlier. I did go to SLS. I also live overseas as well. I'm not sure if that really means anything. I'm just wondering if WP doesn't want me now. :/

Sinster,
I applied from overseas after attending SLS as well. If I remember correctly, my DODMERB didn't come until August. Hang in there!

Oh! You live in Red Cloud? I live in Yongsan. Thanks by the way. My hopes were just about up.

Seeing how competitve SLS is- if they accept you to SLS then I am sure you are a competitive candidate. A lot of candidates get their DoDMERB info in Aug - Sept. Don't worry.
Welcome to "Hurry up and Wait".

If I received the instructions for the medical exam, does that mean that I am more competative than I previously thought? (see previous thread on chances) I have already taken both the eye and medical exams and am waiting for results to be posted. No word yet on the fitness exam. I have also started working on SAT improvement on my own.

Dear Mister Sinister,

Queenbee gives good advice about appling to AROTC. The application is relatively easy and is online. That will speed up getting the "DoDMERB card" and is an excellent backup plan for becoming an Army Officer. Also, have you started the application to any of the other academies? They are available sooner than USMA's and tend to get the DoDMERB process started sooner also. I do not recommend applying just to speed up the DoDMERB process, though. Apply only if you would truly be interested in attending.

Try to ignore the comments about the relative merits of other people's applications. It will make you crazy to constantly compare yourself to others and to be constantly judging your chances. Keep you head up, be proud of what you have accomplished so far, and keep improving yourself academically and physically.

Have you joined the listserv Prospective-Net? It is a very helpful, fairly private, email based site where you can post questions about the application process. Malos and experienced moderators answer your questions and you can read the questions and answers from the other members. It is designed for prospective USMA cadets and their parents. Here is the link:

http://www.west-point.org/parent/prospective-net/

Good Luck! Thank you for making the decision to serve our country.

usservicemom

Is there a parent-prospective net for those interested in USAFA?

Yeah, I'm guessing West Point can take a little bit of time to get information to you. I'm applying to all three academies and I got my dodmerb card from the air force within a week of completing the initial questionnaire.

I still haven't gotten anymore information from USMA other than my candidate login and there is no way I'm not considered "competitive" especially because USNA and USAFA clearly think I am.

If you got a DodMerb card from USAFA you will not get another from USMA or USNA or any ROTC program you apply to. Each program has their own criteria and timeline as to when to upload a candidates name to DoDMERB.
After your physcial is sent to DoDMERB you will be able to sign on to the DoDMERB site directly and see which programs have your name and your status.

All the info is uploaded to the program to which you apply and it is a once and done thing.

You most likely won't hear anything from USMA until they release the "2nd Step" application which was the very end of August last year - unless you get an LOA.
Patience..... it is a long year. In the mean time, work on your Nominations if they are not finished yet! Or spend time practicing the CFA - unless you passed it already!

Ok, thanks. That sounds a lot more logical than what I was thinking before (that you got a card from each source that wants a dodmerb physical). I'm definitely feeling reassured.

USNA and USAFA allow me to sign into their system and type in my info, give my personal statement, and give the contact information for my teacher recommendation. Would this be what USMA considers the "2nd Step" application?

I'm sure you meant to write "three out of the five academies." ;)

Haha. Yes, no offense to the Coast Guard and Merchant Marine Academies, but I don't have much interest in those "other two".
