Illinois ACT Thread. Silverturtle, want to help get a full list? = D

Just got back. The Science section destroyed me; I didn’t realize how fast I needed to go.

@silver, what did you get for the last passage (the density and altitude) do you know what the questions were? Also, what did you guys think of the conflicting viewpoints?

Nope, I had to blow through it, as I was nearly out of time.

What are you referring to?

^“Conflicting viewpoints” is one of the types of passages that show up on ACT Science. It’s the passage where 2 are more scientists are “arguing” over a scientific phenomenon.

^ I didn’t notice such a passage; not a good sign. :)

I thought the science wasn’t bad, overall, though I was a total idiot and didn’t realize the final page existed until the 5 minute mark.
Math nearly killed me, as it always does.
But reading and writing went great.

Should we try and remember questions?

Reading Sections
Little Girl Moving
Scientists and Anthropomorphism
Native American Filmmaker
Tree

^^^ I remember nothing of the sort, either.

Did you notice a passage with much more paragraph-style reading in it than the other passages? The Conflicting Viewpoints passage usually does not have any graphs or charts either.

what did you get for the last passage (the density and altitude) do you know what the questions were?

^
I think all of the questions were about the graphs.
But I didn’t have time and was in a super hurry so I might be wrong.

Did you notice a passage with much more paragraph-style reading in it than the other passages? The Conflicting Viewpoints passage usually does not have any graphs or charts either.

^ I don’t think there was one of those.

The conflicting viewpoints one was the one about dark matter and the galaxies, my daughter said

The conflicting view point was indeed on dark matter and galaxies. It had one tiny chart near the top. It would have helped if I actually knew something about dark matter… :(

^Yes, outside information helps frequently on the ACT Science despite ACT’s claim that “no outside knowledge is needed” on the Science Section.

OHH So what was the answer to the question that asked if there was more dark matter than actual matter or something along those lines? :|

conflicting viewpoints was about dark matter. does anyone remember anything. I remember the question that Star X has 16 times brighter than Y and what is the temp? choices were 1k, 2k, 5k, 10k. I don’t know but I put 10k cause it said in the intro that T4 is proportional to T. Does anyone know?

^^I’m not quite sure which question you’re referring to, but I answered something along the lines of there is more matter than can be seen. Are you asking about the question near the bottom of the page (I believe the left side of the second page of that experiment)?

Edit: I’m not sure about the temperature one either. I saved that experiment for last because it required the most reading so I really only had time to skim over most of the material given  But I also answered 10k

I know I demolished the first five passages so feel free to clear any doubts about that cause I’m sure I did good on first 30 questions.

oh yea, I got that one about the dark matter. Yes, I’m talking about the question that you said in the parenthesis. So do you know what was the answer to that?

Sorry Buddy, I’m afraid I don’t know the correct answer to that one. Your guess is as good as mine >_<

I put 2500.
I’m pretty sure that’s not right though. |D

Answer to the dark matter question was that the amount of visible matter is less than the total matter in the universe.

T to the fourth is proportional to brightness, so if Star X is 16 times brighter then the temperature is the fourth root of 16. 2. Multiply Star Y’s brightness by two and you get 10,000 Kelvin. Hope this helps ;].
