Illinois State Mandated ACT Discussion 4/27/11

do you guys remember if “movie theaters played only newsreels” was an answer choice for the newsreel question, or do i just remember it wrong?

Yes the answer was (1+sqrt3)/2.

@timex and rickyrich, yes, i got (1+root3)/2 and the volcano was d.

@ hiya
no, you’re right.

it was definitely emigrated.
[Immigrate vs. emigrate](<a href=“Post Not Found”>Immigrate Vs. Emigrate?)

Timex, Yeah that’s what I got.

So if emigrate is correct, why is departed from Czech to the US incorrect? Grammatically, it is sound.

hmm… i was just thinking… for the newsreel question, i’m 95% sure that choice g was mentioned motion pictures movies or what i thought meant big-time movie productions, so do you guys think it was choice A? or B?

@agnijay, are you talking about the newsreel problem or the volcano 4km, 30 degrees N one?

“departed from Czech to the US” incorrect because it would be “departed from Czech FOR the US.”
-“Departed to” sounds awkward.

@hiya i believe what you are referring to is that many big time movie actors got their start in newsreels. Which is not correct.

^That was the question saying it was in many cities, right?

no, that was choice j, the third one, i believe. that was another answer choice. I put something to the effect of “movie theaters showed …only…blahblahblah”… i put choice a.

yes, do you remember if that was choice F, J, H, or K? @thundertaken

yes yes yes. the “movie theaters showed only newsreels” is the answer I put. if that was A, then a was the correct answer.

alright! did timex put a different answer for the newsreel ? ?

I’m not sure that’s what I was trying to figure out hah

I put the answer “movie theaters showed only newsreels” or w.e

how about the three lighthouse problems

the first asked the area of ocean it illuminates. 25pi= 79 ish? answer choice E?

next one was how many revolutions per minute? 6pi

last one how many feet would the ship go? 240 feet?

was that a question asking which was true or was it asking which one was NOT present in the passage? I remember it saying something about many news reels being in large cities or something, but im not sure if that was an answer or what.

Those all sound right to me, Timex.

@timex I got all of those answers.
