So I applied to Illinois Institute of Technology on the 30th as a transfer for Spring 2014. I didn't get any login information or any sort of email from IIT. But when I called they said that they hadn't received my application and all they had from me were my test scores and that I wanted to apply for Fall 2014. I rechecked my application and it said Spring 2014. Is anyone else having problems with common app??? I really want to go here!

My student submitted common app to IIT a couple of weeks ago. It took several days to get an email and login, and then the portal showed inaccurate information at first. Technical problems with the common app are causing many problems for the schools as well. Try emailing the admissions rep for your region directly and asking him/her to check on your application. This cleared things up very quickly for us.

Thank you so much! I was getting really worried so I called them today and they told me that I had been classified as an international student and I had applied for another semester =/. However I was able to clear this up with them today. Now I’m just waiting for my email and login! So excited! Did they give the decision within two weeks like their website says?

Yes, we try to turn the application decision around as soon as we have the completed documents. There has been a real problem with the Common App this year and lots of colleges have seen this. The Admissions Counselors are really helpful and if you contact them they can correct the entries quickly.

One of the most important things about choosing a university is to make sure you are comfortable there. Should you be accepted, try to come visit campus. A lot of students really are surprised about the environment here and how friendly the students and faculty are. Yes, a lot of us are nerds but that isn’t so bad…

If you have any other questions about the University, I can answer them for you or point you in the right direction. I have been a physics professor here for 30 years and I know a lot about the Engineering programs as well.

My daughter received her acceptance within a day or two after the bugs were cleared up with the application. Her admission counselor was very helpful with clearing up the common app problems. Hope you get a quick acceptance as well, Sashamel. Best of luck to you!

Xraymancs–my daughter does plan to visit campus before making a decision, but we’re out of state, so it’s going to wait till February or March. I see your posts on CC often and they are very helpful and informative. We appreciate it!

Thank you so much for your input! I haven’t received my login yet so that is worrying me a little bit but I have been to the school and looked around the area and I did love it-- I’m a nerd too. Also, after getting accepted (hopefully), the other largest obstacle is getting enough financial aid. According to the cost calculator I will only have to pay 10,000 which is manageable but I would not be able to pay any more and my EFC is 0000. Here is some information about me to make my case a little clear:

I did my O’ Levels abroad and got 6A*s, 2As and Bs. (in science subjects)

I did my first year of A Levels (12th grade) and got 3As and 1B. (science again)

I am now in a 4 year college in Georgia trying to transfer with 17 credits and my high school transcripts.

Student government member in college and countless activities in high school.

I applied for the Biology program.

Any information on my chances for admission and financial aid would be greatly appreciated. It’s the first thing I think about in the morning-- a bit obsessed.

Oh, and I am a US citizen so not an international student.

@sashamel - Obviously I don’t make admissions decisions but I would say your chances are good. Since the time is short for Spring 2014, my suggestion is to follow up again next week if you don’t get a login by Monday or so. I will PM you with the name of the Admissions Counselor for Biology.

@Parentof2014grad - If you want to visit in March, it might be best to avoid our Spring Break week which starts on March 18. Your student might want to attend a class and visit with other students and you would miss that opportunity. You are also welcome to stop in and see me if I am on campus during your visit.

Oh, we’ll avoid spring break week! Hoping to plan something earlier than that at any rate!

@xraymancs - Thank you so much for all your help and the name of the Admissions Counselor. I spoke to her last week and she said that there was a problem on Common App’s end. I still haven’t gotten my login information which I hope to get in a day or two, or at least before winter break.

I just spoke to the office yesterday and they tell me that we have many more applicants than last year and the Common App issues have slowed us a bit in getting students information into the system.

Even though my complete application was sent almost a week before the Early Action deadline, the portal showed it to be complete only yesterday. So, can anyone please tell me when I should expect a decision?

As I said, things have been a bit slow this year for a number of reasons but the early action deadline will be honored. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you for certain when you will get an answer but if you call the Admission Office or email them, they will give you a status.

I contacted the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and got this response which they asked me to post.

"Thank you for contacting Illinois Tech about your application. We are currently experiencing a high volume of documents in processing, which is why your application portal may read as still incomplete, or that you are missing documents. We apologize for the confusion and delays and are working promptly to get everything up to speed. If you know who your counselor is, it is best to get in touch with them personally, as they have
the means to look up which documents we do have. This is the link to the counselor map, so you can find your specific counselor, [Contact Us | Undergraduate Admission | Illinois Institute of Technology](Meet the Undergraduate Admission Team | Illinois Institute of Technology).

Thank you for your patience!"

Thanks for all your help, xraymancs. Just wanted to let you know that I got in. Saw the little ‘admitted’ on my portal today. Can’t wait for the letter, though it’s going to take a few weeks. (perks of being an international student)

Congrats @bluebilla!
@xraymancs I still haven’t heard back yet and I’m a little worried because I’m a transfer student and if I don’t pay my tuition at my current college (if I don’t get into IIT) by 6th Jan, my classes will be dropped. I don’t want to annoy my counselor by calling her again, the last time I talked to her was on 18th December, so when do you think I should contact her again or if I should at all?

Congratulations @bluebilla, look me up on campus when you arrive.

@sashamel, try calling in the morning on Tuesday, December 24. Officially the university offices are still open that day but past experience says that they will close at noon at the latest. I spoke to the admissions staff and I know that they will be working from home to get through the applications but the office won’t be open until after January 1. Since you are a transfer students for Spring 2014 (is that right?), you need to get a decision ASAP. Is it possible that the admission counselor has not understood the term for which you are seeking entry and is thinking it is fall 2014?

@xraymancs Wanted to let you know that I got in yesterday! Thanks for all your help. So far I’ve received $15,500 transfer scholarship so I have to wait until I receive my need based aid to know if i can afford to attend but I am really excited and trying to stay positive! :))

Congratulations! If you end up enrolling next semester, please drop by and say hi.

Hi!

When do decisions for Fall 2014 come out? I’m an international applicant, I submitted, but I didn’t get any confirmation of receipt or so on. I guess I’m just posting out of concern, because I assume that Spring Applicants would get priority for applications. Am I correct in assuming that (In addition to the common app issues) ?
