Illinois vs Penn State vs Indiana

After finally hearing back from all of the schools I have applied to, I've narrowed my decision down to UIUC, PSU, and IU. I was accepted into each school's business programs, and I know all of them have good reputations. Currently, I am leaning towards going to Illinois because I believe overall, it is a stronger school than the other two, even though Indiana's Kelley School of Business might have a slight edge on Illinois College of Business. I am hoping to major in Finance and then apply to law schools after that, and I think Illinois would help me the most with getting into a good law school(IF I decide to go to law school, might do MBA instead/stick with undergrad degree) and getting an overall good education, especially if I decide to change my major.
I am wondering if anyone has any experiences or advice that they could give to me that I can take into consideration. I am from Virginia, so Illinois is the farthest away of the three schools, and I am trying to ensure that my money and the distance I have to travel will be well worth it.

bu bu bump!

Illinois- I think the business school is excellent and the overall reputation of the school is good as well.

Penn State- Business school is good. One thing I don’t like about it is that they allow kids and promote kids to transfer from their many satellite campuses which I think dilutes the degree from the University Park campus.

Indiana- Good business school but overall reputation of the school is average. Look at the average ACT score for the school and it is much lower than UIUC…the caliber of students is much lower. Something to consider…

Thanks, and I agree with you completely. While Indiana and PSU are both good schools, I think Illinois is better overall and is a bit more prestigious, even though Happy Valley and Bloomington are much more fun places to live than Urbana-Champaign. Will probably be going to Illinois

personally, i would go to indiana because it has a better business program but whatever…

I’m majoring in Finance @ UIUC, my bestfriend is majoring in Finance @ Penn State, and I don’t have a clue about Bloomington.
In my opinion,
UIUC Business College’s Overall Reputation > PennState > Indiana.
But I think when it comes to recruitment, PennState Finance is the one recruiters flock over first before any other college. I also think PennState FINANCE is more competitive than UIUC. Again, I don’t know about Kelley so …Finance majors there could be even more competitive?
I feel like the Finance majors here at UIUC are more laid back, or maybe its just me. UIUC is known for Accounting, the competition is more heated for Accounting. Even though Finance majors here are not very competitive and recruiters are primarily here for Accounting majors, I can assure you that you will not walk out of this college jobless and you can definitely land an internship easily.
UIUC and Penn State tuitions don’t vary much…
Apologies for not providing any info on Kelley…but I’m not familiar with Indiana at all.

thanks guys! It really came down to Illinois vs Penn State, and I know that Penn State is recruiting hotspot, but I felt that Illinois B-School did have a better rep, and that if I wanted to change my major(to pre-law), Illinois would have a better program. I think I will be majoring in Finance, and right now I’m not really concerned with how laid-back the other students are, I’m there for myself and will do the best that I can without worrying about other kids, although a ‘smarter’/more competitive peer group certainly will help with motivation and overall school rep in the future. There is a strong chance I will attend law school/get my MBA after Illinois, so recruiting right out of college wasn’t the deciding factor in my selection, and because of that I think I’m gonna go to Illinois. Even though its farther away from home, I have a few friends going there and have had several family members graduate from UIUC who loved it.
