Hi guys I just got an email from F&M that I am off waitlist with fa 23k per year, but I have already submitted deposit to Illinois Wesleyan (25k fa per yeay) and booked my flight. For the total cost, F&M is 15k more than iwu, I like both schools and want to do consultancy in the future, which one should I choose? I need to reply F&M within 48 hrs so ur help is very much appreciated! Thanks!

@MYOS1634 I need ur help!!:)

IWU is an EXCELLENT school.
but what matters isn’t how big the scholarship is, but how much you have left to pay…
Can you provide (tuition +R1B) - (grants &scholarships) =
and your parents’ budget?

Actually I have to pay 15k more for iwu than F&M, do u think F&M worth it? Cos many ppl r persuading me to go F&M now, they think F&M is better for academics development, but I have no idea about the undergraduate teaching quality of both schools, but apparently two thirds of graduates for iwu go to work whereas the same percentage of F&M students go to graduate school, which one do u think is better for consulting career? @MYOS1634

Then go to F&M. F&M is one of the best schools in the country and the quality of education is very high. If it’s cheaper than IWU then don’t go, run :D. It’s an amazing opportunity. Bring your A-Game and be ready to learn and grow a lot. Plus you’ll discover another part of the country and you’ll be close-ish to Philadelphia and New York City, which won’t be bad (understatement) for your career goals.

I’d go to F&M. Its a fantastic school, you think it is a better fit for your career, and it is cheaper. Congrats.

@MYOS1634 @happy1 sorry I have made a mistake, 15k more for F&M!!!

Is your financial aid in the form of loans or grants (I believe that F&M doesn’t give merit aid any more). If you are receiving loans from both institutions, go with Illinois Wesleyan.

Can you save us some more time and answer the following question, with numbers, asked yesterday:
Can you provide (tuition +R1B) - (grants &scholarships) = … for each school
and your parents’ budget.

@gandalf78 within the 23k, 21k is Merit-based, 2k is campus job, since I am an international student, I don’t have loans

@MYOS1634 total cost after deduction: iwu:25.2k , F&M: 4k, my parents’s budget is around 3k

So you’d only have to borrow 1k to attend Franklin and Marshall?
Do you realize how lucky you are? It’s a terrific school with a great reputation and lots of opportunities, and you get to go for a cost many Americans would envy you for.

@MYOS1634 yeah I just confirm F&M!! Thank u!! I feel so excited to hear u say that! Will there be a problem of explaining to iwu since they have already issued me I20,which is a document needed for student visa, I think they have done a lot for me by far

@MYOS1634 sorry again I just realize it should be 40k for F&M and 30k for my parents’ budget!

Oh… Well… that changes things. 25k for IWU and 40K for F&M isn’t the same as 25 and 4!!!
I’d have taken IWU for that price. F&M is more famous and arguably has a better location, but the price difference puts F&M above your parents’ budget quite a bit.

@MYOS1634 Ok hahaha i realize that!!!

@MYOS1634 I heard from my senior that it is very hard to find intern opportunities at F&M compared to iwu, since iwu has more professional majors like accountancy and engineering courses, is that true? Since I haven’t submitted deposit to F&M, I think I still have the chance to adhere to iwu, but the problem is that I don’t really like accountancy and engineering, I am more inclined to social science

internships related to accountancy and engineering can easily be found regardless of college.
Students in other majors finding internships depend on good career centers. That’s the only thing that matters to you since you’ll major in a social science.
Therefore:
Email BOTH F&M and IWU’s career centers as well as the Head of the Department you’re interested in. Indicate you’re an admitted student who’s pondering her/his options and trying to answer your parents’ questions. Ask whether sophomores and juniors in the … major can get summer internships, which city/in what firms, whether the internships were paid or unpaid, what support the career center has to help students find internships or prepare for them…
