illness and NU IN

I was accepted to the Bouve School majoring in Health Sciences but for the NU IN program, i thought that this wasn't an option for Health Sciences majors. I also have assumed that going abroad is mandatory, but if I have an illness that would prevent me from going do you think that something else can be arranged for example if i did some other kind of community service and took classes closer to home?

You need to speak with admissions directly. Even students who go on the NU.IN. program aren’t considered real students at northeastern until spring, which means they could have their acceptance revoked at any time (like for violating rules or not showing up to the program). So you need to talk to them about it.

i called and talked to the admission’s liason for the NUin program… i said that i had diabetes, and that neither my parents or i felt comfortable spending my first semester abroad for multiple reasons, including my diabetes. He said that that they pick students for the program that they think are well fit, and that diabetes would really not set me in a position to get out of the program. He did mention that they consider a person’s health when they are limited physically, in less words. almost made me want to take a hammer to my shins ahaha. I did write my paper on how well i handle my ilness though, and i do handle it well, but i am just not comfortable spending my first semester abroad :/

And he did say that the abroad portion is mandatory. My only other option would be to transfer in after my sophmore year.

i really dont think is fair that we would be unable to attend NU just because of illnesses which are completely out of our control. i also called and they said they would get back to me

I agree that it’s unfair- but to Northeastern, there will just be another person to replace you. It’s like not getting hired for a job that requires a lot of standing because you have a knee problem. It’s not your fault and it kind of sucks, but there’s not much you can do about it.
