hi im new here. i was wondering if anyone had any insight or opinions on which schools around the nation would be really good for an illustration major. right now the two schools i am most interested in are the art center college of design and cca up in san fransisco. which of those would be better for my major? which OTHER schools might be better than these? i really have little knowledge of schools outside of california and any help would be greatly appreciated.

RISD, MICA, SAIC and Pratt for stand alone art schools. There are many universities that have good fine art/ illustration majors such as Syracuse University.

Art Center College of Design is the best. Have you visited both facilities in Pasadena? They will blow you away. Its very competitive, a lot of intense hard work, but when you leave Art Center you will most definately be on a
career track. I used to be an art rep (illustrators and animators) and all my artists graduated from Art Center. You must have a great portfolio to be accepted (fyi the average age of an incoming freshman is 24 yrs old). I take classes in the night division and most of my fellow students are there to work on their portfolios.

thank you so much for the responses. im actually quite young in respect to the average freshmen age at art center but ive known that for awhile. ive taken night classes there and truly witnessed how young i am compared to the rest. for so long ive been kinda geared towards that school. everything ive been working towards has been for there, so any more responses letting me in on what else is out there would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a good perspective as to your competition at Art Center and have been working on your portfolio there, then you are already way ahead of the pack. I love the success oriented vibe there. Good luck (and remember-the harder you work, the luckier you get)

SAIC has an illustration section? I thought it was juss a purely fine arts program
