ILR Cornell for business

How good is it to go to ILR at Cornell if you want an MBA in finace at a great business school? ILR is mostly about labor but I would take a bunch of business/eco courses, hope to do very well so I can attend a really good business school like MIT(Sloan) or UMCIH(Ross). I'm also waiting on decisions from several schools where I would be an eco major like BU, WashU, NYU, UNC-CH, and UIUC. Or maybe Ross if I can get in. The only schools I'm in so far are Maryland and Cornell. What does everyone think would be the best option towards pursuing a business career in IB?

If you want to do IB, you should definitely go to either Cornell ILR, NYU, or Ross. I'm currently a econ major at NYU but am planning to transfer to ILR because of the strong program and it's more of what I want to study. However, the recruitment from NYU-CAS is pretty good due to the strong econ department and NYC location (although you must have a good GPA to get jobs over Stern students in the BB firms).

I'm getting my mba after ILR as well (tho not focusing on finance). ILR is definitely a solid path and it differentiates you from other applicants because it takes such a unique viewpoint on business.

Thanks guys those sound like very good answers.

Figgy, just interested what do you mean by "it takes such a unique viewpoint on business."

It tends to deal more with people and policies as opposed to the concrete, quantitative experience you would be getting through a finance degree, etc. I think ILR is more akin to a management degree than anything else.

Ya when I explain to my friends what major I am going to be in at Cornell I say Industrial Labor Relation friend gives blank yet impressed stare and I say...wellllll it's kind of like the psychology of business which I find more interesting than straight up objective business.

Wow, sounds amazing!
