ILR /Cornell

Can anyone tell me if I am considering business law, would the ILR school be a good fit, rather than getting a business degree? I plan on going to law school after undergrad. Also, did anyone apply ED?

I’m not going to ILR, but have heard that some people do go from there to law school.
It’s not really a “business school” Read the full description of the program.
Here is a link to all the State University of New York (SUNY) schools which lists the Cornell ILR school and the others.

ED. Definitely go ED if you are sure it is the school you want more than any other one.
Good luck to you.

Yes, I was in a similar position last year and chose to apply to ILR instead of AEM because I had a strong interest in law in addition to business. 21% of ILR grads go to law school, while the rest pursue various grad programs, careers in business, and even careers in politics.

^I applied ED. haha

ED is usually a good idea if you are certain about the choice of college.

I was just wondering, does anyone know if it helps to be a NY resident for admission into the state colleges at cornell like Human Ecology (or Industrial Labor in case the OP is a NY resident) or any of the other state colleges listed on the SUNY complete list from their web site?

[SUNY: Complete Campus List](http://www.suny.edu/student/campuses_complete_list.cfm)

I’m out of state, used to live in NY until last year, parents divorced but dad lives in the Bronx. Both of my parents went to SUNY schools so maybe that will help with cornell’s suny school. I’m not very optimistic, but would like to get in so I have some more choices.
I was denied admission to arts & science, but deferred into regular decision at Ecology, which was my alternate school. Not very good stats, but I am an athlete.

According to the SUNY data, “alumnae relation” is “considered”
i don’t know for sure. still the state SUNY schools at cornell are listed on the SUNY web URL, so I’m guessing that being a legacy of a SUNY grad could possibly help, but ONLY if you are going for the state colleges at cornell, not the private ones like engineering or arts / sciences or hotel.

“Legacy” boosts only apply to students whose parents graduated from Cornell and only during the early decision round.

thanks malan89. I was just hoping because the state schools at cornell like ecology or labor relations are connected to SUNY and on the SUNY web site also. I was hoping maybe being an alum of 2 SUNY parents would help because SUNY and cornell both say alumnae connection is considered. at this point, looking for anything that may help. thank you.

at one point this was the case, but for the past few years the trend has been to increase out of state enrollment. I’d argue that it is to one’s advantage to be non-NY since they get so many NY appilcants in the first place.

ALL off the colleges at Cornell are privately owned an operated, and subsequent NY Judicial rulings have supported this.

And having parents who went to college in the SUNY system will not in any way be considered a “legacy” for Cornell admissions.

@gomestar, thank you. I thought that because the cornell state (SUNY) colleges were listed on the SUNY web site at this link – [SUNY: Complete Campus List](http://www.suny.edu/student/campuses_complete_list.cfm)
that it would be a help because both of my parents are SUNY alumni and both schools say that they consider legacy. I thank you for the info. Maybe like you say being an out of state resident applying to the college of human ecology will help me. I didn’t make it into the arts & sciences college but got a deferral to the regular decision from my alternate choice (ecology). Hopeful.

yeah, legacy probably helps more in ed. but remember that it seems very true that legacy without more to it can usually only help very little.
it makes a very big difference if you are legacy from a family that has been very generous for many years. that is a legacy hook that makes a big difference.

wow, wish I had that kind of legacy, but don’t.

Yes, so did I, but did not have anything like that. Just had the athletic edge and some decent, but not great numbers.

@OP - exercise, ILR is a good background if you want to pursue law, especially in that area. I don’t know if ILR has any business classes. Check the courses at their web site.

Thanks for the information. I found it very helpful!
