ILR Guaranteed Transfer with GPA 3.2

Hey there, I have an GT option to ILR next year and currently at Berkeley. I was thinking of transferring, but as you can see from the title, I'm now stuck with the problem that I get lower GPA than the minimum requirement.

As they say "earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3, with a grade of B or better in each course with no incompletes or withdrawals, during your first academic semester and at mid semester during the Spring 2011 term", is it fine if I ace during my second semester so that I can get higher than 3.3 throughout the year?

And hopefully, I know it is an excuse but is there any chance that they are going to levy on me since I go to relatively tough school (I mean... its berkeley)? and if I visit and appeal my strong intent during January or February (before they make decision), do you think that would help?

I would look forward your responses. Thanks!

“bump”
I am curious too!

I would think they would cut you a little slack since Berkeley is known to be tough, and most ILR guaranteed transfers choose to go to community colleges/super easy state colleges, which is why the gpa level is that high to begin with.

honestly, is it worth it to go all the way across the country to the ILR school? Berkeley is a great school. Your probably better off there. Do you get in state tuition there?

@ Cornellperson: First of all, thanks for your post. So do you think that there is some chance that they would slack a bit? I mean… do they know that some GTers choose to go to relatively easy school and slack bit on me cause I go to “hard-type” of school?

@ poleandreel: Thanks for your reply. I am an international student so the tuition comes to be same… And also, ILR has been my top choice school ever since I apply, so I am bit leaning towards ilr so far

Berkeley will open many more doors, internationally, than Cornell. Berkeley is a far superior place in terms of academics. Be it Europe or Asia, Berkeley is considered at a much higher level than some of the Ivies, Cornell included.

@Rintu. That is the funniest thing I’ve heard all week. Berkeley providing a “far” superior education you say? Umm…no. Berkeley is a good school, but its undergrad cannot compete with ANY of the ivies. We’ll probably have RML in here pretty soon backing you up though with a bunch of grad statistics.

@OP. I’m not trying to be mean, but giving out GTs is something that only the contract colleges in Cornell do (I personally never heard of another university that has this program), so getting a GT is already kind of “cutting you slack” in and of itself. If they say min 3.3 during each semester, they probably mean min 3.3 during each semester. I understand that Berkeley is probably one of the harder schools GTs opt for, so who knows? They might give you some leeway. Best be sure and ask them.

@poleandreel. You make a very good point.

@CornellPerson. I personally think the GTs who choose to go to community colleges should be held to higher standards. Maybe a 3.7-3.8 min GPA would be better.
