Anyone here went through the ILR interview process?
How does it like? How does it last? What kind of questions does the admission officer usually ask?
I am getting nervous about the interview! So any insight and advice will be highly appreciated!

i would go through the ILR brochure (hope you have one) if not…then go to the ILR website and look at the videos they have…

be familiar with the curriculum and the department…also know a little about cornell (wikipedia should help for knowing about ILR history and cornell)

It’s weird that your only having an interview now because decisions are mailed in two weeks. I applied to ILR but had a general cornell interview. My interviewer went to Human Ecology. But I would assume you need to know about the school so do some research. Looking over the brochure is probably a good idea.

Well, I applied to the ILR school and had an “interview” with an ILR alum, but it was more like an info session (that’s even what the alum told me when she called to arrange the meeting). It was very informal. She didn’t have any information about me, so her first question (command?) was, “Tell me about yourself.”

I started with where I lived and quickly segued into my high school activities, extracurriculars, interests, etc. Occasionally she would ask how activity X would help intended major Y.

She told me about her ILR experience and asked if I had questions. At the end, she asked if there was anything else she should know. That’d be a good time to throw in something you wanted to include in your application but didn’t (or something interesting on your application that she wouldn’t have seen anyway).

Hope that helped.

EDIT: It lasted between 30-40 minutes.

Wait… is it not way to late for an interview?

My interview was in mid-February. When the lady called to schedule, she said the deadline was sometime that week. I didn’t want to make any assumptions for the OP, though.

Yes. Way too late. Alum are not permitted to contact students now until the second week of April.

He could be a transfer applicant. Those interviews might still be going on.

wait, are interviews required for ILR?

This is true. Interviews are required of all transfers.

what if i am a first year freshman?

Nope. Not required. (Or even offered.)

ahhh thankss a lot!!!

i had an interview, i applied as a transfer. mine was on transfer day… i really didnt know anything about the school, i actually wanted to transfer to CAS, but after talkign with the lady about everything, i pretty much told her what my life has been like, all the stuff ive done (im a recording artist, tours, cds, crap like that) and what i aspire to be, she was like “oh, well i think you and this school are a perfect fit”

wo0t. who knows how much weight that will hold in the decision process, but i had a great feeling after i left. honestly, the interview is all about being yourself and showing that you have a great personality and educational drive to offer the school.

<3333 best of luckk

Yes, I am a transfer applicant, that’s why I am still waiting for an interview. Thank you for all helpful advices and information!
So, those interviews might take place in either Cornell University or NYC right…?

From what I understand, the interviews for transfer applicants are done over the phone or on campus. OP, are you applying for fall 09?

anyone doing an interview this week as a transfer? I am!
i wonder how it’s going to be like…

I will have an interview for ILR next week…steeze which school are you applying for?
I definitely need some suggestions about what kind of questions they would ask…
i was told it’s only 10-15 minutes

Hey what type of questions did they ask for the interview? I will be applying, hopefully for the spring semester. Thanks,
Umer

Hey what type of question were you asked?
