A couple of questions regarding ILR students:
1) How competitive would you say they are? How driven? Is making money the main goal for most of them?
2) How involved are ILR students in university wide programs? In other words, outside of the ILR school, are ILR students prominent members of the Cornell community?

1) My friends and I aren’t really that competitive. I really don’t get that feeling at all from other ILRies as well. We’re always willing to help each other out. I’d also say that most of us are driven and making money is a main goal for most of us.
2) For the most part, I don’t think my friends are too involved outside of ILR clubs and programs. We do have a few people like Kate Duch who is a student trustee for the University.

I have friends in the Ag school, Arts and Sciences, and HumEc. The only school I really have yet to associate with is the Hotel School. Of the clubs that I am part of ILR student government, Mutual Investment Club of Cornell, and Cornell Ski and Snowboard Club, only 1 is an ILR affiliated club. I’ve made great friends through the other two who have nothing to do with ILR. The ILRies I know are very driven, but not competitive, were always willing to help one another.

“The ILRies I know are very driven, but not competitive, were always willing to help one another.” Exactly. Classes aren’t really curved so there is no reason to be cut-throat to be honest lol

and being involved outside of ILR is a personal decision…it doesn’t really have anything to do with the school, just the person. For example I’m really involved but I would be no matter what college I was in.

ILRies are driven by money but not as much as AEM people (as in less talk of ibanking). Money is always going to be a factor in any business program…but I think there are a large diversity of interests in ILR.

figgy, you and gomestar constantly make me anxious about my ed decision. ILR seems absolutely amazing and i really really really want to get in (grrrr still a month left until i find out)
